ya got a good looking little VW there. No matter what you decide to do remember that the only one who has to like what you do is you. Be an individual and enjoy your ride and customize as you see fit. We'll be looking forward to seeing what you do in the future with it. Good luck

Fixed the damn car with a kitchen knife (remember, all my tools did not go with me, all I have here is a SOG multitool, channel locks, and a screwdriver). Car started up pretty much immediately after cutting 1/4" from both sides of the injector fuel return hoses and stuffing them back in. Ordered 5 meters worth of return hose, some fuel line, some bushings for the shift mechanism to fix slop, new throttle cable, also ordered a manual inline fuel pump for priming the IDI pump when car has been sitting for a while. Since the expensive injection pump is lubricated by diesel fuel, when your system drains to the tank it has to pull fuel all the way from the tank while it is not getting any lube in itself. I've started putting in 2-cycle ashless engine oil as an additive and it helped with my idle, also hoping it is helping the pump. Have found out that my engine is a funny one. Engine code is 1V which comes from an ecodiesel car. Ecodiesel in this form is a turbo engine block with all turbo pistons, oil squirters, etc., with a turbo (previous owner converted car to NA), but with an NA injection pump. The turbo was a low pressure type with no "boost map", and supposedly was there to reduce smoke at hard throttle. The good news - all I need to go turbo is a turbo injection pump and the turbo.
