Default Painting my Dash Pink

Okay, I'm not painting it pink, but I thought It'd be cool to see a chick pull up with pink interior.

Anyways, I'm almost done converting my interior to all black. (Before it was tan and blue)

I found a lot of genuine black parts (front and rear seats, door panels, rear panels, carpet, seatbelts) but I couldn't find a black dash that was both in good condition and had a pass. airbag. So, I pulled out the dash and well, looky here...

For anything plastic, I used gloss black plastic spray paint, made by Krylon.
For the vinyl I used VHT black vinyl dye.

Looks good so far. I did my grey interior to black and green. Any color looks better than the stock civic colors, lol. I used general purpose duplicolor enamel on the plastic parts (primer, black and clear) and duplicolor vinyl/fabric for the vinyl.

i hate the stock tan color as well as the light grey so that black is gonna look tons better one you get it all finished. the only stock color that I do like is the charcoal grey, which is the darker grey.

lookin good!

Again I would suggest masking and painting the dash inside the car, but I guess it's a personal choice. If you scratch it up trying to put it back in it kinda beats the point of taking it out. Depending on how easily the dash is to remove in your generation of car. It's usually more work than just spraying on the inside, that's what I did.

Well, it wasn't the hardest thing I done. On that same note, it wasn't the easiest. It's putsy disarming the airbags, and finding all the bolts that hold on the darn thing. I sort of cheated too, becuase I had a dash that was already pulled out of the same gen to look at to see where it was attached. Getting it over the steering wheel wasn't happening, so I had to unbolt that and lower it. I helps that I've removed most of the parts before for other misc. reasons. I replaced my heater-A/C control unit once before, CD players (too many times to count), replaced gauge cluster (damn speedo f'ed up on me), and everything else but the dash to paint blue.

The thing is though, the vinyl dye takes 72 hours to dry etc. This is my daily driver and I can't drive with the fumes and such. Plus, I was worried that the dye would not work properly in a 100+ degree during the day.

Once you get put it back in and everything just make sure you always use a sun dash cover. If you don't it probably won't last as long because UV rays cause paints to break down after a while. Since my dash is black, sometimes when I forget to put the sun cover up when I get in the car and feel the dash, it's so hot I could almost fry an egg on it, lol.
