Default Question on tire sizes?

yes i have a 2000 civic coupe now and my tires on it now are 185/65/14.
I can get 4 toyo proxies with 98% tread on them left for 120 bucks and they are 195/60/14

i am just wanting some good decent tires on them right now before i get rims cause these stock wheels are in need of tires badly so would these toyo tires work or how would they look?

they would be an improvement. they are a little wider across the tread, and about the same sidewall.

Default RE: Question on tire sizes?

I have simalar question to JakeyMan07 except I have honda civic 2003 LX ( Canadian)

Looking to get 4 new kumho asx tires to replace 185/65/15 tires. Will either of these sizes fit on my stock 15" rims?

195/65/15
195/60/15

Which will be better?

Thanks,

Geoff

I would not recommend switching to a sidewall that is smaller than the factory size if you are not going to get a bigger wheel. The 195 would not be a problem at all but I would not get anything smaller than 65 if that is what is on there now.

The problems that you will have are that the speedometer wll not be correct, and the overall circumfrence of the tire will be smaller, so the engine will have to do more work to go the same speed that you go now. hope that makes sense.

and as for your car, the 195/65/15 would work great

idk what your talking about sigracer.
if you use a tire size calculator and compare all 3 tires, the 195/60/15's (0.2" smaller total tire diameter than current tires) sidewall is closer than the 195/65/15's (0.4" larger total tire diameter than current tires) in size to the 185/65/15's

The 195/60/15s are a closer match. sure they're a tiny bit smaller sidewall, but it's not that noticeable in sidewall size difference, and will have the speedometer closer to correct. if he is lowered, i would suggest not going bigger on the sidewall... it might not matter though since they're 15s and are narrower than say a 17 inch rim/tire.

guys, guys, guys, www.tirerack.com is an amazing website. you should check it out if you're unsure on oem sizes or recommended sizes for larger diameter wheels.

thanks for link! very useful

One final question for anyone. Using the tire size calculator the rim width range is different for these tires:

195/65/15 -> Rim Width Range: 5 - 7 in
195/60/15 -> Rim Width Range: 4.5 - 7.5 in

I know you guys mention the 2 tires I was looking at should fit no problem but out of curosity, does anyone know the actual rim width diameter of the Honda Civic 2003 LX (Canadian). I could not find it in the owners manual.

Thanks,

Geoff

well i'm not sure of the actual rim width of the 2003 LX, but i'm sure that it's not smaller than 5" and it isn't going to bigger than 7"
since they are stock 15" rims, I would guess that they are probably 6" wide, or maybe 6.5" wide at the maximum
