Default squealing front brakes

Hi all,

I am a new member from MA.

I have a 2005 civic LX. I just replaced the front pads and rotors with parts from advanced auto parts. The pads sqeal something terrible. I dropped it off at a honda dealer to see if I messed up somewhere and was told the only way to fix the squeal was to replace the new rotors and pads with official honda parts.(they wanted $620.00 to do this for me....not happening)

I understand I will most likely have to put in a different type pad. so here is my question. What brand and type pad have you all used in your cars when changing out your front brakes? and did they squeal afterwards? I am thinking I may need a sintered pad or something? anyone use EBC pads?

thanks for your input

Stan, squealing brakes are making me crazy, cotreau

Obviously, you want to avoid paying dealership prices for a relatively simple job. Did you grease the retainers and shims?

When you finish greasing and re-installing the new pads, use brake cleaner to clean the rotor surfaces, which may have been inadvertently contaminated with grease from your hands. Similarly clean the brake pad surfaces prior to reinstalling them.

You should have shims. Sometimes they come with new pads. Purchase new ones if necessary. Also use the diagrams to verify that you reassembled the brakes properly.
