1991 Civic EX upper control arm replacement
Issue with my car is that it making a clunking noise when I brake hard at low speed, if braking normal there's no sound. Yes, I already check everything there is check, first thought was my axle, cuz the boot was busted, so I replaced both sides, then making sure all bolts and nut are tight along my suspension. One day I jack up my car and grab the upper control and it was a little loose and thought this is my problem so I changed both side today.
Test drive after replacemet and did my clunking issue fix?? NOT, so my next replacement is my lower control ball joint or until I find out the cause of it, not in a hurry to fix since it my back up car and only put about 3k miles on it per year.
Anyway, just thought I took some pix for a diy'er project, this replacement is fairly easy for those mechanically incline. It takes me less than an hour (about 40 min) to change the upper arm unit on both sides. Didn't want to take pix for DIY at the beginning, but thought some may find this helpful.
Sooo... after the car is on jack stand, take off wheel.
Remove the upper ball joint cap.
After, remove the pin and nut.
No need for separator tool, use a hammer and give it some love.. it will separate.
Remove the strut fork bolt/nut.
Back on top, remove the bolt that holding up the strut and the control arm bolt, then wiggle it out.
Comparison
Install in reverse or whichever way is easy for you.
