best tranny for d16z6???
|
what is the best tranny to use for street/strip use witha d16z6? is the stock transmission best or is there another gear box out there with better ratios to help acceleration. i like the top end of my car as of now (140mph) but id like to also be able tokeep up withsome quicker muscle cars

What have you done to your car to get up to 140? The tranny wont help you get up to muscle cars if your motor is stock. The Z6 comes with the best tranny, the S20. The tranny doesnt have an LSD thou, so that could always be added.

alright, performance typically means a closer gear ratio with a lower top end.
and now you want to get up to 140mph? why? because you're not even gonna get close to trapping 100 at the strip.
and yes, the z6 with s20 is one of the better, if not best depending on what you're looking for.

RE: best tranny for d16z6???
well ok, i might not be up to 140... however the ex speedo stops at 130 correct? with about a 2 mile strech i can bury my speedo. it'll go past 130 by about a the distance of a 5 mph incriment, but with only h rated tires i gave up. if you dont believe me i could prolly take a pic of it. all ive done is i/h/e plus light weight seats, spark plug wires, vafcII. i thought all z6's could do that. do i have a f***ed up speedo?

well i do believe him but maybe not 140. When I had my d16z6 I could get up to 130-135. I did have a few more things done like I/H/E/MSD igiton w/blaster coil and SCI, VAFC 1, pulley set, and so on. nothing internal just basically all the bolt ons but IM. and well it didn't take me a 2 mile stretch to do that but yeah, i believe him.

You were not doing 140 or 130, honda gauges are known to be way off the faster you go. You have the best transmission. And if it takes you 2 miles to get to 130mph that should tell you your car is not fast there for you should not drive it like it is fast.
