Default timing adjustment

How do I go about advancing the timing in my automatic transmission for my 03 honda civic lx? Also I noticed that my rev-limiter stops at 5,000 rpm. Any idea how to increase it?

Are you talking about ignition timing or the shift point? You can advance or retard the ignition timing by turning the distributor. If you are talking about the shift points, you will have to buy an aftermarket performance valve body. Good luck finding one, i don't think that any1 makes shift kits for civics.

You cant twist the dizzy because the ECU is what dictates the timing. It will just correct itself.

There is a jumper that you short with a paperclip, once this jumper is shorted the computer will not change the timing. This will allow you to set a base timing. The only cars you cannot change the timing are the cars with not distributors. In this case the PCM must be flashed to change the timing.

Well in that case I think you just answered his question.. maybe point him to the jumper so he can try this..

I think that when he wrote "timing" i think he meant the point at which the transmission shifts because its in the trans section. Just to be sure i wrote the ignition timing and the jumper is located by the glove box (i think its blue in color, there is a picture somewhere on the forum).

yeah I meant the timing when the transmission shifts. I would like to increase the rev limiter b/c it's stops at 5000 rpm and my car doesn't reach it's maximum horsepower until 6200 rpm. Is it alot of headache to do these things?

I'm not completly sure, but i don't think you will be able to change the shift points for the transmission. This is usually done with a shift kit, which is not made for the civic. You can change the rev limiter by flashing the car's computer. You could get a manual, no rev limiter, no shift points.
