ok i wanna know what it takes to swap a d16y7 head off a 99' dx with a ex sohc v-tec head? i read from someother topic of this forum a head with the ex ecu is needed? i talked to someone else and they said i would need the ex head and ecu but the wiring the goes to the ecu and all whole engine wiring harness...which is true? also will i need to stick to a 99 or 00 head? or can i use a different head off an other year. need a straight answer thnx
you can use any 96-00 EX head, its the d16y8 head you need that has sohc vtec. I'm not sure if the y7 blocked is tapped for oil passages to the head since it's non-vtec either.
thats somewhat true, search more about a 'mini me' swap, its the ecu and the cam thats different, the ecu tells the car to go over to the lobe on the camshaft that is vtec, and when the vtec should engage, 5200rpm i belive, so the head, and the vtec ecu wire is what you need make sure the head is complete
omg thnx so much for the info ppl helped alot clearing up all. so i would have to get a manifold for the v-tec head i see, the y7 wouldnt work for some reason?
right. the y7, or even a b7 or z6 for that matter (off of older civics) would work. but to get the full effect of the work youre doing, get the y8 manifold, it will give a noticeable gain over the y7.

get the intake manifold from the Y8 also. and no, there is no oiling issues with the mini-me like there is with the frankenstein.
Since you have this all memorized, perhaps you could right a little sticky for us all about what a frankenstein, mini-me, ls/vtec, etc, swap is?
pweaase??
*big cute puppy dog eyes*
i started looking around fo rinfo, and i came across this. i cant put it any better than this, so here is the ls-vtec info. ill see what i can find on mini-me.Frankenstein.
