Hey,

Well ive read alot but really I want user experience opinions. What are your favorit subs? I was at a car audio only store today and the guy really pushed a few different things. For a low end buget he said the Clarion or JL subs. He said one of the highest end for decks and subs was kenwood. What would you guys suggest? The kenwood where really nice but there also not cheap.

Thanks
Jeff

He should be fired. Subs are different thou, some are made for SQ (sound quality) and some are made for SPL (sound pressure level, basicaly insane bass).......if u want a good SQ sub that can slam at the same time.....id go with some eclipse, or infinty, or focal (real expensive thou) JL makes some pretty good subs. JBL does too.......but remember, good quality has its price. A 50$ sub from Infinity wont sound anywhere near a 200$ sub from infinity. You need to set a goal.......SPL or SQ....how much power u want to run.......price u can handle? etc

Some SQ slammers: A/D/S , Peerless, Morel, Dynavox.

Yup. I'd go with Infinity that's what I've got. I think Rockford is also good SQ.

Obviously you have a taste for the finer sounding things in life :D

Quality costs, ^^^ and those sounds phenominal along with Focal, CDT, and Diamonds higher end

The JL's are nice, BUT, I would go with the Diamond. It has pretty good power handling (it's dual voice coil) and it has a rubber suspension. It is comparable to the JL W3. I was EXTREMELY impressed with this sub!!! The downfall to the JL's is that they all have a foam suspension, which deteriorates whereas rubber is good stuff. I know the higher end infinity's are good too...

I personally have a Pioneer Premier deck which I really happen to like. The CD player is awesome and the whole deck is user friendly and highly tunable. From my little experience with other decks, I also like the Eclipse and high end Alpine decks. For speakers, I'm saving my $$$ for some Focal component speakers, and I'm going to be running Kenwood Excelon amps. I know that there are many other choices for amps out there, but for their crossover, boost freq. and other various features I'm choosing those over the others. (plus I'm only running one Diamond 10 inch sub though it is 400watts RMS, so I'm running a bridged 2 channel for it at 250watts RMS per channel, so it should be able to handle it just fine) I'm going for SQ more than SPL so I only need one, but if you turn it up that Diamond can HIT and rattle the mirrors off!

Thats why JL's flagship subwoofer line and arguably the best subwoofer ever to be developed uses a treated-foam surround

Well im thinking the higher end JL's (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=9) or the Kenwoods. They have focal but there extremely expensive. I dont need THAT good. They may have some infinity but I dont recall much. I do have all inifinty speakers in the car but Iread several places there subs where not as good. Looks like I have some reading to do.

Kenwood's top of the line doesn't even come close to the w7 or w6v2 from JL. If you have the money get JL or RE

Dude where ever you read that Infinity subs weren't that good were either complete morons or didn't care about SQ and were just looking for something to rattle the hell outta thier trunk.

i agree about the alpine h/u. as far as subs go, if you got the $, then JL is good but there stuff is way too much.

Yea, for the money, JL tends to make great soup bowls, paper weights, door stops, they even can be used as booster seats for your kids at the dinner table or mini stools.

i have some memphis subs that are really great, great spl and sq, i noticed that they are very underrated tho, if you go to a car show, there will be like 10 people with them out of 100..but i think there great and not to expensive

How are JL 12W1v2's? (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=16) Here in Canada they are $199 each + a box would run me about $550. Any idea how that would sound? Also what kinda of box would you recommend sealed or ported?

Thanks

JL w1's are almost the starting level for the subs, the v2 are the newer ones, my friend had the old style jl w1 and they just pounded, they are great subs to start with and its jl so your getting good SQ. A sealed box is great for lower bass, ported is if you want more SPL, i used to have sealed and now i have ported, i like the ported much better

Really how loud are they going to be? Its either these for $200 or I could get W6's for $550. I really don't know if I can justify the cost. Along with that id need a hefty amp since the one I have now definatly will not power them. What would you recommend?

Thanks

Well, to each is own... in my years of experience with diff brands of subs id still stay clear of JL unless I get dealer pricing or its given to me.

I'll second that. Rappers love the high end stuff but unless you're looking sell your house go with something else.

well hes asking for jl..it is expensive but its also top of the line... get a jlw6, you only need to get one and it will slam, but your gunna need a nice amp to power it

Remmy
10-11-2005, 03:17 PM
No, it isnt top of the line. Its the higher end of the medium end.

amg6975
10-11-2005, 03:24 PM
Yeah, the w6 isn't that great. It's just good enough where it has to tangle with this beast. (http://www.jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=W15GTI&cat=SUB&ser=GTI) I'd rather have the JBL anyday.;)

Remmy
10-11-2005, 03:28 PM
^ That is the bottom end of the top of the line. It pwns. But you need a juicy amp to move air with that mofo.

Xoopiter
10-11-2005, 03:34 PM
The W6 around here is very expensive (550-600 each). Would the lower down versions (ie W1 or W3) be ok? They dont damage the wallet and ill still get 250 RMS from each. I dont need HUGE GIANT sound as im not in any competitions but I do want something that sounds good and is loud when I need it to be.

Thanks

Actually my customs guy has connections to infinity subs (they are hard to find around here) :) Going to pick them up next week. I also installed my 6002I in the front and man pure sweetness:) One last question for now. What are "voice coils" and is having 2 better then one? I have heard several different definitions of a voice coil in a sub.

Thanks

Kappa Perfect or just Kappa?

Xoopiter

I believe kappa perfect. Whats the difference? On there site: http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/category.aspx?Cat=SUB I see a 12.1 which is "kappa series" but when you click on the description it says kappa perfect 12.1. Also the 12.1 D says "Kappa perfect series" and the only difference from the 12.1 is its 2 or 8 ohms.

I know. One server runs on 4 and the other says either 2 or 8. I always thought 4 was the "standard"? What exactly is the difference.
