Well this is pretty much what it all comes down to. I like the looks and styling of of the 3g compared to the Civics but what about dependabilty. I aslo like the V6 option and leather and everything like that.

Honda's customer service has to be better then mitsu's from what i've been reading on www.eclipseforums.org It seems many people have problems with them.

Anyone have any other opionons for this?

mitsubishi sucks. the cars are ok, but the company sucks. and as for the v6, the 2nd gen turbo 4 will blow away the v6. as well as the lack of an all-wheel-drive option on the 3rd gen. if its got to be an eclipse, get the 2nd gen turbo. if its gonna be a civic, get the 6th gen si. or an older one and do a motor swap. all way cheaper than a new 3rd gen eclipse.

mitsubishis are unreliale cars, especially the eclipses. Not sure about a 3rd gen, but the 1st and 2nd gens start having problems after about 60k miles. Although the V6 one might be fast, I'm sure it won't last very long.

I have an experience with the 3rd gen GT V6...its an allright car, but EGR went bad at 15K...what to say about the rest of the car???

the little civic boys had to talk shish...so us eclipse boys have overran your little forum. all i hear is if we get this super dooper h22 VTEC motor that is what 3g's? to put it in my 82 civic...i can take out an eclipse....wahhhhhhhhhh is all i hear. my mom has a tl type s and i admit vtec is very sweet...but there is a difference from a 265 hp motor of a TL than there is to a 160hp vtec in those lil 4 bangin pieces of shi* that you all have....our cars need to be maintained but if we got the money to buy one..we got the money to maintain it. i could have bought a civic for 5 g's and turbochaged it but that is a waste of time cuz say 1G into an eclipse and ill beat u again....plus the fact that civics are ugly and have been since the first one was made....its take about everything you can possibly buy from aftermarket to make a civic look nice....i live in NOVA and there is a nice lookin civic i admit....but when it takes off its in 4th gear when it gets to 30 MPH....when it sounds like the car is bein put to the floor its goin about 10MPH...wtf is wrong with you people you have no brains or style....you put a muffler on your civics and think you can go around revvin at anyone...well thats my 0.02 cents peece out fag boys

as for your precious DSM, yeah, they can be sweet cars. the 4g63 is one of my favorite motors, but i swept the track with one at the last drags i went to. and that was with the 1.6L.... NA 1.6L, with minor bolt-ons, and traction problems in 2-3-4 gears. so if you want to talk ish, then bring it to sacramento raceway. ill bolt on my nitto 555Rs and my new 1.8L will school you too.

and i havent heard of very many "real" mitsu fans(y'know, the ones who actually know what they are talking about, and when they went to buy a sports car, they got the evo) defending the 3rd gen. MITSU SOLD OUT. they have some great cars, but sorry, the great ones dont have v6s under their hoods. America wants torque, so they sold out. and yeah, hondas doing the same thing, so dont even bother. youll find many of us dont think highly of what theyve done to the civics recently. but at least they will usually honor the warranties, unlike mitsubishi who is voiding warranties on evos for people "driving them too hard" isnt that what they were made for. the evo is the reason mitsubishi didnt go out of business, and they turned their backs on the owners of them. great company. and im not just spouting crap, i know this from experience. i have a few friends with evos and i hang out with the NorCalEvo.net crew, so i know from firsthand experience about the warranty troubles.

3rd Gen Eclipse's aren't DSM's.

diamond star motors ended in 99, the next model year2000 is the current body style for the eclipse, there for no DSM on them

Evo did pretty much save mitsu anyone that does some research will discover this on thier own. not the 3g contrary to popular belief.

And mitsu warranty work isn't the best around i'll agree.Mitsu has voided many warrantys becuase they claim people are driving to hard and just not on the Evo's my 45yr old mother had a diamante and something went bad with it and they told her to quit driving it so hard, its not thier problem. :eek: Honda's customer service is better.

Oh and they don't have the 4g63 motors anymore, its the 4g64 motor with is a 2.4L SOHC motor thats slightly more powerful then the NA 4g63's running around. Still a mid to high 16 second car ;)

I have to call him out on this also. My friend drives a third gen eclipse and it has about 70,000 miles on it and she is having all the problems in the world with it from the peace of **** car skipping at regular to needing new sparkplugs His car is also a turbo and my 1.6 L civic out ran the POS eclipse. Truthfully I think eclipse's are a POS car just like ford so don't fu#$ wit this. HA HA

The bottom line is that Eclipse SUCKS. Besides being a chick car, they are highly unreliable (they do look pretty good though), and are known to have a lot of problems after 60k. I agree, you can make them fast (just like any other car, if you have money), but they are not going to last. I think that majority of people are looking for reliability when they go out to buy a car. Cars like Civic can go over 200,000 miles without having any major problems.

Just to give you an example. A friend of mine has a '96 Eclipse RS, and he needed to change his ECU at 65k. This problem is unheard in other japanese cars

personally, i don't like the new eclipse styling at all. The previous model was the best. I hate the lines in the doors, I hate the lines in the front bumper, and I hate the rear lights. Obviously this is personal preference. I also would like to add that I hate the new civics too. They also look like **** but they certainly look better than the new model eclipse. Personally, I don't know what I would buy if I were on the market for a new car. I think I would end up buying used.

As for speed.. this depends on what model we are talking about. The civic Si hatch will be faster than the eclipse GS (STOCK). But, I don't think the Si can take the V6 stock. There is no point arguing about modded cars because any car can be modded to be fast. I've seen sub 9sec civics and I'm sure an eclipse can be modded enough to be that fast as well.

Just for some comparison, I'm 19. I've been working on cars since I was 6, rebuilt my first engine at 7, and I am co-owner of a car repair/tuning business. I've owned six cars so far (4 tuned and sold), and two of them were Mitsus (1G and 2G). I'm speaking from experience here, as I've worked on more 3G Eclipses than you will ever see in your life. So now you know where I'm coming from.

The fact that you can stand there and tell me I'm jealous of your hp is the clearest indicator that you are a complete amateur. It doesn't take brains to work on your own engine, but it takes brains to know who and what you're insulting before you start talking. If you want numbers, I've raced five 3G V6's over the years, and I've never seen one closer than three full lengths behind me. I'm talking drags and rolling starts, and just so you don't have a **** fit, they weren't stock. I'm not jealous of you in any way; in fact, I feel sorry for you. You must think that coming in here and running your mouth about **** you can't even begin to comprehend will make your balls bigger. The modded Eclipses I've raced were in other cars. Once my car is done, I'll stand my that statement though. My last 4G hatch would drop your car like a bad habit.

What does your s14 run btw?

Running stock boost on the motor (.6 BAR), I run low 13's on street tires, mid 12's with boost up to .8 BAR on race rims. I haven't built the engine or anything yet; I'm putting my time into my hatch. The next thing I'm going to do to the S14 is an AWD conversion off a GT-R.

And of course our opinions are going to be different, man that got a little too heated, but anyway one of my friends currently has a civic w/ a totally work B-16 engine, turbo, swapped auto for manual transmission, whole body custom carbon fiber, and plenty more it's strictly a race car. I think the last time I talked to him, he ran a 9.23, but I mean he has like over $10,000 dollars or more invested in his civic right now, it's crazy, nothing on the car is stock anymore, it's great to see cars take shape like that.

His other car is a 96 prelude, which he's currently working on, but that only has H/I/E, but he's thinking about engine swap soon, that project is going pretty slow right now. I have not ran this on the track since the turbo kit was done..... The last numbers I had was 13.6, with a horrible 2.1 (damn FWD) 60ft.... that was with headers, 75shot dry, s-afc, intake and exhaust.

I have recently found out that the Chrysler company which was one of the main company's giving money to the U.S. Mitsubishi company has stopped funding the mitsubishi company. It is supposed to be leaving the U.S., but there is no set date. I will be so happy to see you fools trying to get your cars when the company is gone and your peice of sh@# warranties are gone also. The 3g Eclipse isnt the easiest car to mod.... the market is very slim, not very many company's make parts for our car. There has been a total of 3 companies who made turbo kits for our cars, 2 of which who went out of business, the only one left makes the kit charges a nominal fee of $4000.00+ , insane to say the least [&:]

But thats exactly why I chose this car, I'm not one to join the bandwagon (nothing against you guys ;) ) infact, I like going the underdog route. This holds true to the last project car I owned. I fully built a 95 Miata, yes you read it right, A MIATA :lol: A great car to mod, extremely lightweight, RWD, and awesome stock handling capabillities, in short, a go-cart ;) It took me quite a while, but after 3 years I finished my project ... fully built engine; 15psi turbo (pushing 327 RWHP) and 150shot direct port ...... blah blah blah... point being, I got a lot more satisfaction building a car that no one really has an interest in.

Now back to the 3G, I initially thought that things would go the same way with this car as it did with the miata, but this car is much harder to mod, the V6 does'nt like to be boosted, it took blood, sweat & tears just to get it to where it is now, which is not even near what my goals were for the car, but overall, I think im doing a good job with what I have.

She decided it needed a body kit and lo and behold there was a total of 2 body kits for her car, I think they were called ugly and uglier. She chose the ugly one. She hooked up with a Celica meet and lo and behold again, well over half the cars there had the same kit on them. So much for trying to be different. At least there are more ways to modify my civic than one horrendous body kit and one that everybody has.

this is true......... its a good thing im not into body kits;)

you would think the Celica would have a little more aftermarket support. Hell, they are finally getting some stuff for my ride. This whole argument is stupid. Mitsu, Civic, whatever... its all personal preference. Now the 2gen vs. 3gen Eclipse, thats a different story... 2gen all the way!

First of all i am a guy second of all i kno u weren't talkin about 2nd gens my friend saw Eclipses suck and he got mad cause a honda ( i say civic but he says it's a prelude) beat him in his 2nd Gen, i have no problem with civics.

oh yeah, and just a sidenote, my friend called me today to tell me his turbo in his 98 talon tsi, with like 38k miles, went out today. no boost, and lots of blue smoke.

i havn't heard much on 2nd gens turbo's goin out, their real weakness is crank walk, they get that quite often

yeah, but i think hes getting a 16g, so its not all bad, just the timing.

Isnt this why so many forums fail... The constant little child like bitterness between people about their rides.

These forums are for information on how to fix and work and trick out your ride and to bring together people who love their cars----not to try and bash each other on who owns what.
