Ok i have a 97 EX and im looking for a short shifter. The dude that owned the car before took the stock shifter and cut it in half or something. The chrome shifter knob just sits in there and when im shifting sometimes i rip that thing right off (i shift hard). I searched a little and i found that B&M makes good shifters and i looked at there 45074 model, it reduces throw by 54% but has a aluminum housing and i read to stay away from aluminum on shifters. Is this a good shifter? Is there any other companies that make a good shifter? I dont want to buy a ebay shifter. A couple more questions, what is the size of the threading on the stock shifter and is there anything i should replace while im in there (car has 114k miles on it). Thx everybody for answering all my questions, all my knowledge is in nissan but im learning about hondas.

no way...u'd prolly have to kick the crap out of it for it to break. just go to ur local pep boys, autozone, or advance auto and buy one there for like $20...i got mine from pep boys and it awesome. its aluminum too. im not sure of the 5-gen have the exhaust pipes run under the shifter like the 4th-gens but if they do, i suggest getting a new cat-back if u can because it'll make putting the short shifter in waaaaay easier.

Ive been looking into buying one of the ones from Pep Boys, and those kinds of places, and personally I dont see a problem with it. If I could break off a pice of aluminum like that, Id be pretty damn happy, but I dont see it happening.

I actually tried to support my car with my shifter (accidentally) the other day and it snapped, but I see no other way to break it. I dont' give a shat how hard you shift. I see no reason to pay 100 bucks for a Skunk2 or B&M, but I never do. I have an ebay one and I am cool with it.
You might as well chnage the shifter bushings while you are down there. They are only a few bucks. The threads on any shifter you get for your car are going to be universal, so you are cool for any knob that you want.
Good lord, Sacs must have had defective ones or something. I'd think there's a lot more stuff in the system that would be toast long before the shifter would break?
