cut out the back of the factory mounting bracket... that's what I had to do for the 6-1/2" in my 2dr...

pretty simple, it's because the stock speakers are shallow mount

i think most are 6-1/2" front 6x9 rears in the coupes?

Thanks Remmy, but when i peeped thru my back panel, the speakers seem to be round and not oval. I suspect both front and rear's are 6.5. This is a 4dr.

all else fails, take yr door speaker grill off and get a tape measure and measure your speaker ;) then you know before you buy. :)

that works..but those tables are really helpfull because i know for a fact that in the EJ/EK civics (96-00) if the magnets are too big in the front, your window wont roll down all the way! so using a tape measure only gives you the diamiter...

I have a new 07 Si sedan with the 350 watt premium stereo. Do you think different speakers will improve the sound/volume?
How efficient are the stock speakers? If I upgrade to Polks, JBL's, etc will it be worth spending the extra cash. Also the subs magnet looks pretty big, would it be worth changing that. I have the $$$ to do this but not sure if it will improve the sound. I don't want to buy new speakers and find out the factory speakers are very efficient and sound louder.

Thanks for any info. Jeff

I instead of jbl or polks speaker wise i would go with infinity's. JBL makes great subs and amps but infinity will make a better speaker. They are the same company under Harman International.

Great guide - just one quick question though. I know I have 6x9s in the rear deck in my 2002 LX coupe, but when searching for speakers on Crutchfield, they suggest 5 1/4" speakers for the rear deck... Very strange. Crutchfield recognizes that the car uses 6x9s in the back, but says all of their 6x9 speakers won`t fit. Is it just a matter of some modification? Or will most 6x9s truly not fit? I just got the car and one of the factory rears is completely blown out. I just want to put a nice pair of 3 way 6x9s in, is this possible?

Thanks. I hope this isn`t a re-post - tried searching and didn`t find any matches.

Cheers.

<EDIT> Sorry, I should also probably mention the speakers I am looking at - Alpine SPS-6963s. I'm not looking to go too crazy with the speakers; just something with decent fidelity to replace a blown 6x9 in the back.</EDIT>

<ANOTHER EDIT>Hey, apparently I didn't search thoroughly enough the first time. This has already been answered in a previous post: http://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_74121/tm.htm . For all of those keeping score, apparently Crutchfield is a bit off on this one. There's plenty of room in the trunk for 6x9 depth; I'm going to go ahead and order. </ANOTHER EDIT>

BEWARE WITH 93 COUPES!!! The rear SAYS it is 5.25" but the mounting on the factory speaker itself is a little bigger, and it is too small for a 6.5"

When I installed my 5.25" in the back I had to drill one hole through the metal where i was mounting it. I also didn't use the mounting cup thing, I recommend laying down some sound foam around the speaker when you install it.

crutchfield is the best for a factory install. they have checked what speakers actually fit in each car. not the size so much, you can buy adapters to install smaller speakers. but moreso the mounting depth and height. if it will hit the windows, in the doors or if after install the interior panels will interfere.

me myself, im putting in rockford fosgates, which wont look factory, but should sound alright:cool:
