There are more than two Escorts:
Escort
Escort Pony
Escort GT
Cosworth
German Merkur
Escort ZX2 Hot
Escort ZX2 Cool
Escort ZX2 SPort
ZX2 S/R
Esslinger ZX2

I like Honda's as much as the next guy, but honestly a stock Escort ZX2 will beat a stock non Si Civic. A S/R ZX2 will run dead even with the pre 06 Civic Si's. A ZX2 with full full bolt-ons (ignition, intake, exhaust, pulleys etc) will beat a Civic Si with similar bolt-ons. Don't get it twisted, the ZX2 Escort was made by Ford for one reason, shut Civics down. The S/R ZX2 had less horsepower, but more torque, it weighed less, had better gearing, and could be bought for about $14,000 brand new. Then if you throw a set of street/strip CAMS, delete the VCT and put on a pair of adj timing gears (assuming you dyno tune it) it will beat and compete with the Acura Integra GSR's and Type R's. The Cosworth and Merkur were fast in there day, but not by today's standard, my daily driver Escort will mop the floor with either one of those cars.

Escort guy you have got to be kidding me. What exact 1/4 mile times are these stock and "bolt on" escorts running?

Here are some stats for the cars, based on turn of the century year models 99 - 01 (1/4 mile times)

Escort ZX2 = 15.9-16.1 (depends on where you get the stats and whether it's a 2000 or 2001)
99-00 ZX2 S/R = 15.6-15.7

99 - 01 Civics = 16.7 - 17.2 (depends on year and which model: DX, EX, HX, LX)
00 Civic Si = 15.9
00 Prelude = 15.4
00 Prelude SH = 15.5
00 Integra GSR = 15.7
00 Integra Type R = 14.8

These are just for ****s and giggles

87 Civic = 19.3
94 Del Sol VTEC = 15.8
93 Del Sol Si = 16.8
85 Civic S = 18.2
92 Si Hatch = 16.5
91 CRX Si = 16.5
84 CRX = 17.6
92 Prelude Si = 15.9
89 Prelude AWD = 16.3
88 Prelude 4WS = 16.8
92 Prelude Si VTEC = 15.2
95 Prelude VTEC = 15.1
97 Prelude Sport Shift = 16.0

I threw these in just for the hell of it too

03 Civic Si = 15.7
06 Civic Si = 14.8
Acura RSX = 14.8

These are taken from my car in the past, present and future

Escort ZX2 with basic bolt-ons intake, exhaust, chip and pulleys = 14.9-15.1 <- at the track
Escort ZX2 with full bolt-ons to include CAMS, VCT delete, adj timing gears and tuning = 14.4-14.6 <- from G-Tech
Escort ZX2 with full bolt-ons and 10.5:1 comp, port and polish, oversized valves, heavy duty valve springs, MSD coil and 24lb matched flow injectors = 13.9-14.1 <- I'm hoping for the 13.9

So yes, a stock Escort ZX2 is faster than any of it's 99-01 non Si Civics by a full second
And yes, a 99-00 S/R ZX2 is faster than it's Civic Si counterpart by .2-.3 seconds
Last but not least, bolt-on Escort ZX2 is faster than a bolt-on 03 Civic Si and as fast as the new Civic Si
- to include any variant of the CRX or Del Sol in it's stock form

One of the coolest Civics I have seen at the track was a Del Sol with a 2.2 Prelude swap running high 13's on the 1/4 mile track. Another guy out here has a CRX with a 1.8 Integra swap running mid 14's on the 1/4 mile track. The guy I raced with the 2.0 03 Civic Si was running low 15's. I've only seen one Escort ZX2 break into the 13's, but it wasn't all engine, it was running a turbo at 6 or 7 psi and maybe a 50 shot of nitrous.

I am sorry and I am not trying to run you off but I honestly do not think them cars run that. They would be more well known and you would see more of them modded if the times you state are truth.

CivicXRacer -> Ooops, got a little happy with the E's in VTEC.

Marty -> Think what you want, those numbers are not made up, I got those from a few places. The ZX2 is not well known because the performance upgrade market for it is not even close to what's available for imports, Civics especially. The origial 99 S/R ZX2 was only produced late in 99, only 106 were available to the public. So, would be tuners hear all the hype about Honda's and know that the import performance market is good, so they buy a Civic.

Say what you want, but I provided the facts, call all your RICER fly-by's kills if you want. Still doesn't prove that a stock Civic is faster than a stock Escort ZX2, or that a stock Civic Si is faster than a S/R ZX2, and it doesn't prove that my full bolt-on ZX2 isn't faster than a 03' Civic Si with similar bolt-ons. All I am saying is be careful who and what you race, one day you'll pull up to a ZX2 with bolt-ons and skilled driver who actually wants to race in your DX, EX or LX Civic and you'll be made a fool of. Pull up next to me in your Civic with a loud fart canon muffler and I'll just let you go ahead to boost your ego. I don't have time or money to spend on gas or paying for a ticket to prove my car is faster than your's, I know it is.

Doesn't prove anything, I haven't beaten Mustangs, Murcielagos and modenas. I just wanted to let this guy know to be careful who and what he races. Then I provided some facts, not peoples RICER fly-by stories. You can't take every "I killed such and such car" story as truth. Facts are facts, a stock Escort ZX2 with a skilled driver will beat a stock Civic with and equally skilled driver. When the Escort ZX2 came out it was rated fastest car for under $20,000 for a reason, not because stock Civics were faster, but because it was the fastest car for under $20,000. If his car is still stock I don't recomend racing anything, any real competition will just embarass him, anything he beats would not even be worth mentioning.
