One of my buddies told me it would cost me well over $2500 to swap a 5 speed over my auto, is that true? I haven't talked to any mechanics yet, but any one out there that has done it before, can you tell me if that $2500 estimte is correct, or what kind of figures are we lookin at here? God, if it's 2500 forget the 5 speed!

no freakin way. im not sure of the prices, but no freakin way it'd be that much. i mean damn, if it comes down to it, buy a whole parts car and pull what you need and then part out or sell the rest. you should be able to get a whole car with body damage or a blown motor for less than 2500. id guess you could piece it together for around 3-400. including the tranny. and you might be able to get the tranny WAY cheaper.

yea it would definatly not cost that much...some guy told me he would get the parts and do mine for 1200 but i am definitaly not gunna pay that much when i could do it myself for much muc cheaper...by the way i peiced the swap for a fourth gen (cable tranny) w/out tranny i came to 160 or so maybe a little less...the tranny i found online was 150 but shipping about doubled that so im just gunna try to find one around here when im ready...so yea definatly a lot chaper then 2500
mine cost tranny ; used from honda only auto dismantlers(www.hondaonly.com) 5 speed 300.00, clutch; brand new, pepboys like 150.00. flywheel came with tranny, labor cost about 20.00 (all about freinds and a case of beer) get the book and do the work the hardest part i found is breaking the d@#$ nuts loose, so under 500.00 is acheivable

getting there is half the fun, do it yourself
yeah, i think you need the pedal assembly, cables and ecu extra for the auto-5 speed. other than that, it should be the same. and wiring hsouldnt be a problem, cause you are taking out sensors, not adding them, so you just dont hook them up.

God you guys are tempting me to do a tranny swap even though I don't have enough money yet. But perhaps some day in near future. Also, I've been told by some one that doesn't own a civic, that if you swap a 5speed for an auto, you would have to modify the frame. Is that true?

yea i got everythin excetp the tranny and flywheel and clutch for free...now i need to get that stuff....i think im going to do it when i pull my motor for rebuild...if my auto can last till then...seems like its gunna be fun...when i took the pedal assembly out of the donar car..there was no dash nor stearing column...do you guys know if i have to take the dash out to get the pedals in mine because i dont see how i can get under there and do it...to me thats gunna be the hardest part
