keep the amps settings on where they were when the people installed it. they usually know what they are doing. if you turn them up, they will sound worse and overheat all the time.i set my amps at about halfway, and i never have a problem, and im running my sub at 2 ohms.

If all you want is loud crap yea, go for it. I like low smooth bass, so I tune the phase all the way down. It sucks less power and it doesnt sound like youve got it hooked up on a high pass.

Sacicons is right, amps in civic trunks overheat quickly, there is no circulation in them at all. Although if you have a good brand amp that is Class D you shouldnt have too much of a problem... they tend to run more efficiently and suck less power, thus not as much heat. But their harmonics are only sutiable for subwoofers. Also I've noticed that the pressure can be immense too. Lol, at one point I shoved a pack of matches in between my licsence tag and the frame to stop the rattling. I also dampend the entire car to stop rattling, improve sound, and lower the ride db's. Once I did that you could actually talk and hear others in the car really well! Im thinking about installing high power 5 1/4 speakers in the rear deck to relieve the pressure in the trunk and improve the subwoofers bass so it wouldnt have to fight itself as much anymore. I know that others with high powered bass noticed that the sub in their trunk interfere with their back deck speakers. I also killed an amp and ruined a sub because of my trunk BTW.

My solution to amp overheating problems is I took the inside panel off the back seat passenger side interior and mounted the amp to the inside of the body (out of sight, since I have a hatch). The body works really good as an extra heat sink, which helps when you're pushing big wattage. I'm running 1000 RMS to two 10's. Obviously, those aren't the biggest numbers out there, but it's not how many watts you got; it's how GOOD it sounds... I too am a fan of the sealed-box, balanced bass (C'mon. It just sounds better...). That way, people don't HEAR you from five blocks away; they FEEL you... First generation Infinity Kappa Perfects are still the subs to beat... hands down. If you haven't heard 'em, I'm truly sorry.

yea those first generation kappa perfects kick ass. I dont like the new ones, some people try to trick you by telling you they are perfects but really there are only kappas. I wish that harman kardon would start whipping out car audio, it would be really nice. They have made a head unit I like that simple and stupid but sounds GREAT! Here is an article on it: http://carsound.com/articles/publish/article_153.shtml

in my opinion get rid of the boss stuff. sell it on ebay or something. sell the amps and get audiobahn amps. they come with built in fans and i have never had any problems with it. if i am wrong let me know. but hands down they are the best amps for the money.

I disagree. I used to work in a car audio joint and I got to play with all sorts of equipment. By far audiobahn is not the best bang for the buck. Believe it or not, its JBL that is. Even their bottom of the line sub ( I think the GTO) sound excellent and you can pair them up for serious earth shattering bass. Their amps tolerate alot of stuff. I belive the new ones will handle 1 Ohm. And they are actuall smart amps, it is hard to kill them. They also do not require a fan, they are Class D monoblock amps which run extremly efficient and draw small amount of power compared to normal AB amps. The JBL mono amps are perfect for honda civics because they dont strain the battery (which the stock battery is no bigger than my ass cheek) or damage themselves from small amounts of power. I killed a Kenwood amp that way.
BTW Meangreen.... Im not trying to shoot you down LOL

ahahah JBL?!!?!..naw dog..pheonix gold..you can grab two octane-r's for like $140. and pheonix gold has the best amplifiers out there(waaaayyyy underrated for what they push) //JBL needs to stay in the home sound area where they rule. Go PG.
as far as ur system goes...drop the boss stuff, good cheap stuff if u want a quick head unit its alright but other then that ..no...the audiobahn stuff probably isnt as worth it either. audiobahn makes quality subs once you get into the ALUMQ's and up but their low level subs are not up to par. like i said before..go pheonix gold.

Its up to how much u want to spend, my first system consisted of 1-10 inche kenwood sub in a truck box in my 91 trooper powered by a 300 watt jensen old school amp, i had the sub 10 mins before i fried it lol and thus began my obsession lol, now im getting ready to put in my 2-12inch infinity kappa perfect subs pushed by my memphis 1000d and im getting 2 sets of the kappa perfect component sets one for the front and rear and i just got in my panasonic 8300u headunit .. so its all about what you want and the sound you like. opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and they are all different lol[8D]

In my expierience audiobahn is a scam. Actually JBL techniacally invented the subwoofer and I know alot of people that wont dare to walk into a best buy nor even look at one in its direction and they still like the high end JBL stuff. Also, PG is by far NOT the best amp out there. I know what im talking about. And the best sounding amp I have ever come across is this: http://butleraudio.com/main.html . But by far audiobahn and PG (which PG isnt bad) are not the outcommers compared to the world of car audio. There are brands out there that are so intense and precise that some come with cotton gloves for handling! No lie.
Roost3r
02-10-2005, 09:08 AM
hehe..i was more stating that PG is rated lower then how they perform(which is really well) so they are better then most who actually overrate their amps. and screw you..and are you saying that i dont know what im talking about remmy?? ouch....:D..hes right tho. butler will kill audiobahn any day amp. wise and beat pg.

Boss which is not Bose, is nestled down there with walmart and BigBubba's flea market grade equipment. Depending on what Audiobahn subs you got got they may or may not be good, but probably good beginner subs. Phoenix Gold makes some of the nicer midline car audio equipment. Thats Phoenix Gold, Phoenix Digital is another one of those amp companies that put a 1000 watt mark on their amp either out of outright lieing of a power rating that was taken at full tilt right before the amp blew. Your phoenix digital amp is going to be lucky to be putting out 50x4 only because those Boss speakers wouldn't take anymore then that. And the subwoofer amp is probably pushing 200x2. Everyone has to start somewhere, and your's isnt that bad. Just be careful who you say I have 2000 watts in my car to.

I have JBL amps and they are by far the best ones I've ever delt with (I've installed a lot of them.) I have them mounted on the back of the rear seats and never have an overheating problem unless it's PUMPED for an hour or more. The sound output is amazing and the power ratings are definitely lower than what they can actually put out.
I saw people talking about Infinity in here too. I have perfect 6.1 components in the front, nothing in the back, and a Perfect 12.1 sub. I LOVE these, sooooo clean and dang loud too.
GO HARMAN KARDON!

i'm gonna agree w/ rem on that jbl being the best bang for the buck, i personally run boston acoustics, i have their 6 1/2 componet pro series (125 rms) w/ their 93s 6x9's and i have the pro 12" sub i personally like DEI amps, had them since they came out and never one problem. the thing about car audio is that you can have cheap sh!t, and as long as its powered right it will sound good, but i may not last, just remember there is no substitute for quality and quality don't come cheap, and def get yourself a new head unit, the entry level pioneer would sound better than that boss

I still have to say Infinity is the best sounding speakers/subs out on the market and their amps are just as good, not as high powered as some but can outperform many of the high power amps out there. I got a full Infinity system and I wouldn't trade it.

Syaing that is a very blind statement. There are headunits out there available that cost more than it costs you to buy your used civics. Eclipse has a prestigious high end brand called Monitor Audio, they will set you back in the thousands.
Now however, ill cut you some slack. Harmon Kardon makes JBl and Infinity. Infinty does sound damn good. I love infinity but I thought you should know.

Well IMHO get rid of the Boss stuff its just plain whack period. as far as speakers go check out the home audio stuff. anything from peerles. vifa seas, morel is what sound quality is all about
and u can get any of those brands at a good price from Parts Express. and a good amp is any thing ols school ie Kenwood, Alpine, Fosgate Linear etc
ebay has a ton of the old school amps that kills this new stuff. subs are all basically the same its just depends on your own prefrences. stick with the likes of Kickers, JLs, Fosgates Alpine Infinity etc.
