Default Shifting habits -- what's yours?

Just curious where everyone shifts during daily driving? On my Civic, I'm finding that I shift to 3,500 pretty consistently. Anything lower than that, and it just takes too long to get going. I don't want to go much over that, for reasons of fuel economy. Is 3,500 RPM every shift going to wear the engine out earlier?

So, what RPM do you all shift at for daily driving?

All depends on the situation. Average start from a stop going straight ahaid in a 30 usually 4,000 in 1st, then 3,500 or so in 2nd then just blip through 3rd up to 35 or whatever, then shift into 4th.

From a stop going up to 55 usually, 4,500 in 1st, 4,000 in 2nd, 4,000 in 3rd, blip though 4th to get up to 60 or whatever, then cruse in 5th.

Lowering your revs doesn't automatically mean higher MPGs, if you're shifting at 2,000 RPM you need to push the accelerator harder to get the same, prolly even lower acceleration which gives the engine more gas per cycle. You have to find the ballance between revs and throttle position.

I am about the same as everybody else. I got a hole in the exhaust and it is loudest at 2,500 RPMs so I try and keep it a little above that. Everybody thinks I have an exhaust!! LOL I really need to get that fixed or a catback (look I know a few newbie terms!!!)!!
