Im considering pulling a "cheap bastard" by getting an electri super charger. These things work by flipping a switch or having a throttle switch turn on at full throtlle, the boost does PSI 2-2.3 I think. What is the PSI on a stock 2000 civic?
Where are you planning on buying it from? If it's from ebay, don't do it cuz it wont work. Even if it isnt from ebay dont do it cuz it probably wont work. I doubt an electric fan will be able to make 2-3 psi. Have you ever blown into a boost gauge before? 2-3 psi is actually a lot of air (not for a car, but thats about the highest I've ever gotten blowing as hard as i could). Also, having it in the way of the air going into the engine when it isn't on is going to steal power from your engine.
Very true. It may be able to provide air in the lower rpms, but once it gets past a certain point, the engine is going to be sucking in more air than the fan is blowing. Thats why real superchargers/turbos work, because they spool faster as engine speed increases.
Now if you made an electric one with a gearbox....

Anyway, I have to agree with everything said above. That thing just defeats it's purpose as you start to accelerate, since it blocks more air than it lets through.
I do have a friend with a corolla who used one and it works fine. The fan spins around @ 8rpm. and it doesnt effect air flow at all wen hes not using it. The one i was looking at costs around 200 bucks and it is not on ebay. It has a full metal housing and uses a marine dc fan. Im not trying to start a war here on parts but i thought i would post to see if anybody has more knowledge about this inwhich of course you guys did/do... thanx!

I suppose if you had it spinning fast enough, it would work throughout the entire rpm range of the car. It would have to be spinning extremely fast thought. And it would only give you optimal power at the lower rpms, because as the engine sped up and started to suck more air in, the air pressure in the intake would decrease, so once you were at like 6000 rpm, you would have minimal hp gains over stock. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
there are some legitimate ones out there, but i'd only consider it on cars that dont have the aftermarket support, like a Paseo or an older Ford Escort or something. there are too many valid avenues to take with a civic to get real, everyday, reliable horsepower.
