Well I just bought one last week. It's a 91 with a 4 speed manual. But it only has 31K original miles on it. In perfect condition as it has been garage kept and driven very little. I don't know if I want to sell it or fix it up.

RE: WANTED : 90-93 Civic DX Hatchback

Original owner is my son, he bought it new - I have the original docs. He used it as a commuter and little more. He had a BAD skiing accident a few years ago, and hasn’t driven it since. His wife has driven it a few times, and I borrowed it for a week a couple of years ago while my car was in the shop. It got moved from time to time, but no miles to speak of – obviously. This car has sat for over a year. I took a fresh battery, cranked it for about a half minute, aired the tires, and it fired up as smooth as the day it was delivered. Was I surprised! I gassed it up, drove it from Greenville to Columbia, South Carolina, on “cruise” with the hatch open and the radio ON – directly to the tire dealer. There’s no rust, no damage – but was painted about five years ago due to clear coat peeling. The paint looks great, but they over-painted onto the rubber gaskets. That needs to be detailed. Engine is clean, but dusty. I will clean it this weekend.

I just replaced the tires (Falkens), original brake pads & rotors (I used DuraLast, kept the originals), and flushed the brake fluid. I’m having the timing belt replaced Thursday (including water pump, engine seals, belts, etc.) at Midlands Honda, Columbia, as well as a maintenance service. The A/C is not blowing cold, but is blowing. (May be an A/C clutch fuse or over-rev protection switch.) All the controls work fine. The horn has stopped working - I imagine I have a blown fuse or mud wasps in the horn, but MAY have to re-charge or replace A/C components. The window tint has started to fade, so will remove it this weekend. I have the original radio, and an identical spare. (There’s a JVC with removable face plate installed.) This model does not have rear speakers.

It’s a 5-speed, and the clutch is solid. Shifting was smooth and easy, and the tilt/slide roof worked effortlessly. Electric outside rear-view mirrors, crank windows, manual door locks, steel wheels. I’m replacing the hatch lift support mounts – the gaskets are dry, not fresh. The wipers were brittle (no surprise) so replaced with new blades. Honda will check it all over for me Thursday while it’s in the air for service.

This is all the straight poop – could have done the work and you’d never know it had been “sitting up.” It will be right by this weekend, and I’ll snap some photos. Asking price will be $5,500 OBO. I was offered $3,500 before I touched it, as it sat, by a Civic enthusiast - and will have $1,500 to $2,500 more in it by Sunday. Honda assures me it will look and drive like it should after this work is completed.
