Default quiet exhaust recommendations?

So my 100% stock '99 civic has an exhaust leak..the drone during driving is annoying, and i've been attracting way too many cops. Local shops tell me the exhaust needs to be replaced..sure I can go stock, but are there any cheap/reliable 'performance' exhausts that would help performace (even a little) and still be quiet?

Also, replacing the stock exhaust is something I can do myself, right? Just bolt the old one off and bolt the new one on?

also remember that the more exhaust components that you replace with performance parts, the louder the exhaust will be. when you add a header and a new cat, the sound increases drastically. so replace what you have to but a larger free-flowing exhaust will be loud and can sound "ricey".

greddy evoII is quiet in the low RPM band and the high RPMs its a little louder with a low deep tone. but it will run you about 500.

magnaflow and megan are close in price, they sound about the same but megan (from what i understand) is a little quieter.

If you are wanting to put a header later on then, I wouldn't go with a magnaflow. When I had my old civic it had a magnaflow exhaust and it sounded good. But when the header came on and cat well,[sm=yikesomg.gif] man did it get loud!!!!! Oh, and it made it sound ricey.
