View Full Version : Water Spots
chaseman1978 01-26-2006, 04:25 PM I have read the glass cleaning 101 already. But I was wondering if there is anything out there, besides the $30.00 Cleaning System that I just read about, to remove water spots on my glass. The windshield isn't bad at all. But all the side glass in the car is terrible. I really don't have $30 to invest in a cleaning system. Is there anything out there on the market that I can go to Autozone or Advance and pick up to remove these unsightly water spots?
civicexracer 01-26-2006, 08:17 PM try Rain-x. it improves visibility when driving in the rain or snow and repels rain, sleet and snow. works pretty well. only use it on the outside of the window tho. it cost about $5 for 25 wipes and theres a spray and gel kind as well at advanced auto or autozone.
ef4life 01-26-2006, 08:47 PM use windex or another glass cleaner everyday
chaseman1978 01-26-2006, 10:09 PM tried both of those. I got the Rain-X foam glass cleaner now, and nothing has had an effect on it...

try drying your glass with newspaper when you wash your car, works really well...windex works good but DONT use it on hot days, as soon as you spray it on your glass it dryes up and streaks the hell out of your window and looks really bad
trickyvick 01-28-2006, 12:27 PM Have you tried Stoner Invisible Glass???
AutoGEEK (http://www.autogeek.net/stoninglas.html)
skytanker2003 02-02-2006, 10:08 AM You could wax the spots out w/regular car wax. *Dont laugh* That usually gets the stuff on mine out. And if there's spots on your black plastic trim, try black shoe polish (rub it in w/a toothbrush, and rub it out w/a towel, then add whatever black trim polish you use)
boatboatboat 02-03-2006, 07:07 AM water spots are mineral deposits left when the liquid dries.
use vinegar on a small soft cloth and just hold the moist towell against the spots for 30 sec or so.
97_nw 02-03-2006, 09:29 PM what about on water spots that have been there for a LONG TIME? i got my car w/ lots of water spots on the rear/side windows, and vinegar didnt work..

I second the newpaper idea... it works pretty good
chaseman1978 02-03-2006, 10:28 PM The newspaper didn't work for me. But I'll try the vinegar tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens....
Marty 02-04-2006, 02:53 AM vinegar will do the trick
jake11375 02-08-2006, 09:24 AM Vinegar has always worked for me too. Good luck!
Adamation 07-13-2007, 07:44 PM I just got a New Honda Civis earlier this week. I made the mistake of washing it the other day and I got water spots on the Windows. I can't seem to get them out. I found this old thread here and thought I would revive it to see aboput any current day help. I already bought some Invisible Glass but the Water Spots Remain. I don't know how a NEW Car could of gotten them so bad. But it's sure disheartening.
New member as well. Hi. :)
Type RB 07-13-2007, 07:52 PM Keep reading. There's a thread called 'glass won't come clean' that addresses everything you need to know. Trust me - I just found the miracle product... but I don't feel like retyping everything.
Adamation 07-13-2007, 08:00 PM I will have a look, thank you. I quickly learned my lesson on what to do and not do to my new Car!
Stupid question of the Century: Water Spots are on the OUTSIDE of the window always, right?
Type RB 07-13-2007, 08:13 PM Not always. But most often.
Adamation 07-13-2007, 08:19 PM I'm going between ordering some DP High Performance Glass Restorer online or seeing if I can hunt down these Mr Clean Magic Erasers, which I assume I can get in a store. They aren't actually made for Auto Glass are they? They just work really well...from whjat I have read online.
Can the DP Glass Restorer be found in stores? If so, which?
Thank you.
Type RB 07-13-2007, 08:32 PM I don't think so. Most of the auto parts stores won't carry them, and I asked the detail shop I bought the Hi-Temp acid cleaner from - they said they had to order it as well. Of course, I live in San Angelo, TX - only the largest city in the U.S. without an interstate.
Adamation 07-13-2007, 08:36 PM Ah, thanks. Maybe I'll run down and get the Mr Clean first and try them, then order the DP if needed. Is there any special method I need to know to use the Magic Erasers? or just use a directed? (In a supermaket, they would just be in the cleaner section I'm guessing?)
basbal123 07-14-2007, 06:25 AM i dunno if it is true but i someone told me that useing vinegar with the eraser works really well

yeah, i've heard that too.
the magic eraser isn't made for "automotive" use, but i've seen it used on hundreds of different applications....usually with great success.
Adamation 07-14-2007, 03:55 PM I haven't tried vinegar, but the Magic Eraser didn't seem to make a dent in the water spots on my car's windows. I don't even understand how my new car could have them so bad. Should I try that DP stuff, or maybe some Vinegar with the Eraser?
I hope what I have even IS Water Spots. But damn it's embedded in that glass!
Not to Be a Pest but just to show what it is I am trying to get rid of, here are some pictures that showed it the best I could get.
Confirm these are Water Spots and what I can do to them, please!

I really appreciate the help. Maybe these are older than my recent washing, they seem awfully enbedded. Maybe they were on there from being at the Dealer and I just didn't notice. In either case, I want them gone.
Thanks!
Type RB 07-17-2007, 07:01 PM Check out my pictures in the 'glass won't come clean' thread. Same stuff - mine was worse.
I'm tellin' ya - Hi-Temp HT-709... best $8.95 I ever spent.
Adamation 07-17-2007, 09:02 PM Alright, alright, I'll bite. Can you give me a linky where to buy it online, or can I pop into a store to get it? Any special method to using it?
Thanks.
