V2? Worth it?

I gotta a 05 Civic SE and I want to make my first mod which will be a intake. I like the V2 because of how it sounds but the position of the filter sucks. It looks just like a SRI. To me its not a true CAI. With the filter there, it only sucks in hot air coming from the engine. Has anyone tried both? Which is better?

Hey Wangman,
congrats on the new ride. I just bought an 03 LX and have no mods on it so I can't really speak as to the V2. But it does come highly recomended as I have asked similar questions as yours. Click here for that post

Anyway, good luck. Which color did you go with? My 03 LX is a 4D White.

personally i dont think the V2 is worth it because it is $50 more than a normal AEM and you said the filter position is more like a SRI so i would go with the original AEM CAI, plus the V2 can't have a water bypass valve installed

good point with the water bypass, but the V2 straight outperforms the original. hands down. if you live in a dry climate and want the best. its V2 all the way.

why dry climate? how about wet climate? will the V2 give more power in the low and high rpms like the company says? Does anyone actually have one and know it works?

This is my problem with V2, I ordered and wasn't aware it wouldn't fit a auto trans. Had to send it back and got an injen RD1550 CAI. The injen is not 2 stage but it does look physically more pleasing. Still haven't put it on yet (not enough hours in the day) but out of the box it looks great(black). AEM believes in their product but I'm not sure about dyno hp. I'm not sure how much you will gain for sure. I did get the injen for less than a V2. What the other guys are saying is that with a CAI you have a chance for hydrolock(bad). With SRI you don't run that risk.

RE: V2? Worth it?

Yeah, i understand. Im willing to dish out the money for V2 cause im so paronoid about hydrolocking and stuff. Plus i believe what AEM says about power in both rpm areas. And the sound clip sounds pretty sweet. I read somewhere said that SRI has a high pitch sound? I really like that deep growling sound from V2. I'll have it in about two weeks.
