Default Speaker Size Is Not 6.5?

Hi, i have a 3dr civic P reg (1996), i have tried putting in 6.5's in the front panels, and they dont fit!

The back of the speaker hits the mounting chassis, so for the moment i have ended up getting these sh** 6 inchers that cost six pounds!, but they fit perfectly!

I dont know whats going on because i thought the stock size for that model was 6.5!???!?!?! anyone else know?[/size]

That is odd. Here is a solution for you. Get some bracket adapters or make your own to fit a 5 1/4 speaker. That size has a hefty selection like the 6.5".

does the speaker hit the plastic part of the pannel because this has happend to me in my 96 and it also happend in my 99' hb what i did was cut the plastic part of to exposed the door it left a big hole which is coverd up by the speaker anyway so know one will know unless you take the speaker out and they fit fine now and sound really good also.

Wasn't there a thread about this a while ago about how manufacturers and most car companies don't actually make them the right size, and Honda does?

I had to operate on my car the other day to get the 6" ones in aswell, the speaker chassis comes with a plastic backing, thats the part that i sawed off.

Now i can fit the speaker in and the back of the speaker goes in nicely, but the speakers are going to be thrown away soon because i just got a new sub, and would like components to give me a good midrange and highs.

What part exactly do i have to cut in order to get the speaker in?
