Listen,

The more drivers, the better the quality of the sound....Well most of the time!
The Sony's are XS-V1642A and the frequency response is 30-30k
and the RMS is 55 Watts

The Pioneers are TS-A1671R and the frequency response from these is 35-22k
The RMS is 30 Watts

However go to this site they have both speakers at inexpensive prices!

You might want to take a look at the specs first and then decide...Check out the Sony's can handle 55Watts RMS, while the Pioneers can only handle 30Watts RMS...

Both are pretty inexpensive brands though...Both will blow if overpowered, just like any motor

I'm going to say Sony. I had them in my old car and never had a complaint. For that kind of loot though, I would look at some Infinity reference or kappa series. The kappas will prolly be a bit more expensive but you won't be sorry.

Check out www.sounddomain.com they're an authorized dealer and will price match.

Check out www.epinions.com to find the absolute lowest price on the net then price match that to sounddomain.

more drivers is a misconception alot of people have imo. you will never get a better sound than components, and crossover. if you want good sound then go component, but the $ jumps way up.. in some cases, you get what you pay for. but to answer the question that was asked, out of the two choices you gave, i would choose pioneer, even though i am a sony man, very sony, i have a 61" sony tv in my front room, a 32" flat screen in my b.r. etc.. but i have tried their speakers and i gave them away.. way to flat sounding

jwsimons is correct but if your pocket can't handle the pressure of the component speakers, then out of the 2 choices, I feel that your best bet would be the Sony's

Take your time to think about it if those r your only two options....

Then if you can wait and save for the components, then wait - the clarity is totally different...

This should answer a couple questions for you two. I just added some alpines to my 06 Coupe and ran into some interesting challenges. Below is a post from another forum that I recently made:

I just added some component alpines to my 06 coupe. There are no airbag interfaces in the door itself that would interfere with the install - but you might get into something if you dig too deep in places where the speakers are not mounted. I used a standard 6.5" model with the equipped adapter and it worked out fine. Regarding the rear deck, you will need a 1/2" speaker adapter otherwise they will fall too low into the standard holes and get tied up with the trunk tension rods. I actually had to cut about an inch off the rod on the drivers side of the trunk to get my alpines to fit since they were a fairly deep and wide mount.

Keep in mind when you do this that the stock head unit has built in factory equalization. This means that in order to make up for the stock speakers poor frequency response in the highs and lows, there is a built in bass and treble boost built into the tone system of the head unit. Upgrading your speakers may leave you with a system that is very bass and treble heavy leaving out vocals and other more midrange sounds. JL Audio makes an item called a clean sweep (see their web site) and Alpine is coming out with a very similar item in august. These are designed to remove the built in factory equalization settings and return the stock head unit to a flat response. The JL audio version uses a self adjusting 30 channel (!) equalizer to accomplish this and costs a bit over $300 if I remember correctly.

Currently I am using tone controls, cross overs with level controls and a hand made tweeter level control to compensate for this and it sounds pretty good but I really can't wait to get the factory bias out... I know it will make a huge improvement!

Good luck!

Ebay. I would take a look on ebay and I bet you could find a old series of Infinity's or Alpines. But between the 2, I'd go with the Pioneer. Sony is a junk d*** brand, and in my opinion, they sound horrible. Do yourself a favor, and look on ebay. Believe me, ebay!
