Short Shifter help!!!!

I have looked everywhere for a short shifter for my 02 Civic EX and can find nothing except adapters! 2 questions: What is and adapter? and Does anyone know where I can find a short shifter for my car? Thanks

those adapters make it so you have to move he stick less to shift into gear.
