Default vtec or not?

hey,
im not for sure if its the orginal engine or not. is there anyway to tell weither it is or not by looks or any thing other than the vin number on the engine? if not where is th vin for the motor?
thanks its a 99 civic
oh also it has a apexi v-afc controller in it if this was not a vtec engine would that mess things up?

your trying to tell if the motor is vtec or not?...or you want to know if its the original?

im goin to sleep so ill add some info for you...to tell if its vtec: the spark plugs will be at the front of the head and the oil cap will be at the back right, on a non vtec head the spark plugs are on the back and the oil cap is on the front left..also look for the vtec selionid on the head behind the dist.

also check the motor number: on a small flat surface on the left side (passenger side) of the block...you will see a flat surface that sticks out a little..you may need to clean it off to read the number

also what civic is it ex dx lx..ect?

k figured it out it is so the controller is right and everything just need to have it tuned now.

dont all of the 96+ sohc hav ethe plugs on the front? im not sure, but i think that system only works on the older ones. (92-95)
