Default vtec vin

anyone know which character in a vin number tells you if your car is equipped with a vtec engine? i have a 98 honda civic ex, but not sure if its vtec or not. there is no vtec word on the valve cover.

if it's an EX, you have vtec.

it should say D16Y8.
