need help to choose a civic

alright so with gas prices going up as they are im thinking of getting a smaller car aka the civic heres my list of problems:
- what would be the best year to go for?
- what years are interchangable?
- common problems to watch out for?

im not planning on modding this car for high speeds yet or if at all, maybe lift it a few inches cause i live in mountains and i have a problem with curbs thats why i have a midsize suv, hehe.

RE: need help to choose a civic

Welcome to HCF. For the best year I would go with 5th gen(92-95) or 6th gen(96-00). I personally would with 6th gen since its more refine than the 5th gen. As for the interchangable parts 5th and 6th gen goes together really well. For problem you might wanna watch out for bad sycro in 3rd gear for 5th gen but this is nothing really and shouldn't hurt anything. Mainly just expect a civic to last your whole life. So far my 5th gen is reliable and maintenace free.

Welcome! Thats a good question. I dont think it really means anything much. However, the general consensus is that the DX and LX do not have V-tec engines. However, the HX (which is a hatch) sometimes have a watered down v-tec engine. The EX is standard with a v-tec. The Si is a whole different ball park. Twin cam is the difference

I would suggest a 99-00 EX or SI, but I guess I'm probably biased cause I have one. :D

so i take it SI is the best.the EX is second best. the HX basicly sucks since the engine is a watered down version of the EX. the DX and LX are the lowest and not as powerful.
did i get all that right?

yes you pretty much got that right. i had a 00' 2dr ex. i loved that car! i wrecked it and now have a 96 ex 2dr. i fell in love with the civic and had to have another one. i would recomend the 99-00 also. just take a look at them and find out what the differences are and decide based on what you like.

alright so i found a civic with 112k miles its a 96 the body is in good condition, basic mantaince is done and the owner is asking 6k im not sure which "X" it is but looking at ithe kbb 6k is about mid range to high for the DX, EX, and LX so im thinkin i might go for it.
