Default slammin gears

sometimes when i shift very quickly out of first to second @ like 6900 rpm's it will grind goin into second. Am i shifting too fast or at too high rpm's or what. Oh yea and is it safe to speed shift from 2nd to third. Because someone told me to floor it in second and push in the clutch and shift to 3rd as quickly as possible while still pushing on the gas. Is this safe, or gonna tear up my clutch???

For longest clutch life, it's always a good idea to double clutch. That means:

-when in gear press the clutch all the way in,
-take the shifter out of gear release the clutch,
-immediately press the clutch all the way in again,
-shift to the next gear
-quickly release the clutch

I'll let somebody else answer the RPM question.

i was told when i had the same problem with my 99 hatch that it was second gear synch starting to go out.. but my first gear was also hard to get into alot of the time on that car.. i just picked up my 96 hatch today and the trans is so smooth i am gonna luv it.. first gear takes no effort.. and shifting into 2nd at high rpm is not an issue.. so not sure if this was a clutch issue or if the mechs were right and it was a synch issue with the gears on my old hatch..

you are just grinding the syncros or dog teeth, your transmission will wear out faster with the way you are shifting though
