Default clay bar on old paint?

well i've read/heard alot of good things about clay bar and my friend said i should try it cuz my paint is a bit dull and has some marks that i cant get out. i was wondering tho if it is good to use on 11year old paint? is there a certain technique for using it? i just dont want to end up scratching the paint or anything like that...

thanks

just follow the directions on the box. it shouldnt hurt it. it didnt hurt mine when I did it. but getting it buffed would help a lot more, but thats also pretty expensive if you dont know how to do it yourself.

clay bar won't do anything for dull paint. just get the dirt out of the paint but use swirel remover and then wax maybe that will help but like sacicons said buff would be the way to go to try and get it back usually a detail place will charge over a 100 to do the whole car..

No clay will not remove marks or restore dullness. But, if you haven't clayed your car then the previous owner probably didn't clay it either. There are great advantages to claying your paint. I clay my car at least once a year to remove contaminants that waxes, washes, and polishes don't remove. A test to see if you need to clay is to put your hand in a ziploc bag and lightly run your fingers over the surface (without moving the ziploc bag, just your fingers) If you feel any roughness, you need to clay. You'll be surprised at what a good (1) wash, (2) clay, (3) polish, and (4) wax will do to your car. [sm=smiley20.gif] Makes a world of a difference.

Edit: Just use plenty of lubrication and fold the clay to a new portion once it gets dirty. If you drop it, throw it away.
