Again, honda does make V8 it's 2.4l and 750hp. It's not street but they do make it (biggest engine manf. in the world). Why dont they make huge V8? Economic 101:"make the most out of the least" In the time that gasoline price can only go higher, big engine is the shortest way to bankruptcy

im not putting down honda engines...for the most part, honda engines run the nopi show...but i posted that 1st gen neon because someone made a comment about how the srt4 is fast because of the turbo...so i posted a 10 second, NA 2.4L dodge engine...

and marty, while i am aware that there are faster hondas (they do sponsor the class) i think that saying "so and so runs 9s" is a bit biased...while there are lots of guys who have achieved certain plateaus of performance, in many cases, those numbers cannot be replicated except in ideal conditions. i was REALLY impressed by the cars at the nopi event, and there were cars in the 9s in the NA class...but at the same time, i have to disagree with the comment about honda making the best 4 cylinders, from a strictly performance standpoint...in the outlaw classes, there arent even competitve hondas. HART has a fast ass civics, but its no where near the performance of the toyota, mazda, and mitsu powered cars..

in the street tire class, shepard racing ran in the 7s...and brent rau ran in the 6.90s at over 200mph (almost as fast as the NHRA pro stock class running 500 cubic inch V8s)...making them the two fastest cars in those respective classes....what do those 2 cars have in common?

It's a strong ass platform

1000whp on stock cylinder heads and castings

The sexys:

sorry guys, but from a drag racer himself:

What’s the main difference between the Cobalt and your Civic?
Basically, efficiency. We can bring the car in after a pass and do a leakdown, check all the minor stuff that you usually have to check in a race car, and go back out racing – every single pass. With the Honda, we had to change the head gasket or the cylinder head, and once in a while the pistons. But right now, we’re just making passes. That’s what it’s about in drag racing – making rounds. You guys all saw Nelson and Marty last year. We’re not out here to be motor builders or anything – we’re here to drag race and you have to make rounds to do that.

I said srt4 is capable of 500whp from stock internals because it's made for turbo not it's fast because the turbo. Those mazda and mitsu are RWD and AWD, their engines are not superior than honda's 4cycls. Drag race just means show off to me. Straight line accelerating shouldnt be that popular.

Fast 1/4 is impressive but there're hardly any part left of the car is original.

Just because isn't a strong competitor in the field doesn't mean it is not a very, very good way of showing off the skills of a team. True, getting a economy car to corner like a Ferrari is impressive. But getting an economy car to go a 1/4 in 7 seconds is alot more impressive

so the fact that all appearing evos were in the 10s...and the talons running rwd were in the 6s, doesnt make the engine superior? you do understand the horsepower output, right?

so drag racing "doesnt count" how about the fact that the evo FQ400 will keep up with a lambo on a road course?

i have no problem with you phoenix, but there is a reason that at the Mustang and f-body sites the domestic douchebags make comments like "my car is built for turns" is a cop out..because it is.

im trying to hate on civics at all, but making excuses for why they cant keep pace, on average, with other cars is pointless...
