Marty, as of last night it runs. I even drove it to work today granny shifting at 2k...fun stuff[:@] Tune is scheduled for Sunday, so Monday's drive to work ought to be a LOT more fun.
That freaking BOV is insane, even at 2200rpm, and like 5 vac it will flutter, its going to be nuts when I actually get on it.
Yeah, I need to invest in some lighting, and I would have bought one this past weekend, but the miscellanious expenses involved in a boost project are astronomical. I'm eventually getting 4' shop lights for the ceiling, and a drop light for underneath. We actually broke that 5 foot lamp...Lori was not happy. Needless to say she will be very happy when all of this is done. I've barely seen her in the last week, broke her lamp, racked up a bunch of money on our credit card...yeah She's pretty damn cool about it though, she knows I feel guilty as hell so she's been easy on me..
Thanks for all the comments guys, heres a couple shots from last night...

It was a lot like putting a tack in the wall with a 20lb sledge, Angle Grinder + Cutting wheel = FTW!!!
Sorry Fiirkhan, I will get bay shots soon, but it's not pretty under there right now.
UPDATE = Went and got all my A/F ratios setup last night, and I can finally drive normal speeds again, wOOT! The only problem is, my wastegate is not keeping me at 8psi, rather, I'm spiking really ****ing high. I got to see first hand what about 20psi feels like, and holy crap was it hauling.. But that isn't a good thing, obviously. So, today I need to crawl under in hopes that I can find an easy fix on the wastegate. If I can't, it could be a while before I get to finish my tune. We couldnt do anyway WOT tuning pulls, because everytime I got on it, it the boost would skyrocket and I'd pop a coupler..
Any ideas Marty? That wastegate wasn't tampered with was it??

tony are you going to reinstall your air cond back ?
Forty04
07-24-2006, 08:30 AM
Can't....not with this turbo/manifold setup anyway. The piping would go directly into the side of the a/c unit. I plan to reinstall it someday, but it's really not that important to me. The only time I use it really is when I want to defog my windows
Marty
07-24-2006, 08:32 AM
I never messed with it but I was getting over 8psi. I was hitting full 8psi around 3200ish rpm and it would hold that till around 5500 to 5800rpm it started creeping. In the end at my rev limiter(which was about 1200rpm higher than yours is) I was hitting around 11psi.

Well I have no idea why the hell it's spiking like that.. THere is no gradual increase, I hit boost, and it climbs directly to above 11 psi.
And my rev limiter is set at 8k now too:D

Watch reving it that hard 40, I had alot more favorable bottom end to handle that. Your piston speeds at around 7200rpm are the same as my piston speeds at around 8200rpm. Just be carefull with it. BTW I was reving to 8400/8600rpm ;)
I would take a look at the wg actuator to see if it is bent or it may be stuck somehow.

You gotta know how bad I want to be able to take this thing down the 1320. As soon as the car runs and boosts properly, I will be at the track the next day:D
Pete, I think you're right about the actuator, probably just needs a little "negotiation." I'll get er figured out. I didn't get a chance last night cause the future in laws were in town, but I'll get under there tonight.
Side note, It ran a LOT smoother this morning with the air being much cooler. I think the running rough issue has been brought on by the 95+ weather we've had over the last couple days. I just need to get a few things situated tonight, and try to get my tuner to find an hour or two of spare time so we can finish this damn thing..

That is exactly what I was fearing....well, that and a possible fried Piston ring. But, it seems I'm on my way back UP the roller coaster. Ran a compression test Friday night, and turned really good numbers. 204, 199, 200, 199. So at that point we couldnt figure out why the car would fire, run for a second or two, then the rpms would drop and it'd die.. (this and a couple other factors is what prompted me to think that I had low compression in one cylinder).
Anyway, after running a good compression test, Tyler and I put everything back together, and started he up no problem. The wastegate is now properly attached, and does exactly what it's supposed to do. Next step, finish my tune. (Hopefully before something else goes wrong)

Yeah, i dont know what the deal is with my valve cover, but the paint is not holding up to well with the new level of heat in the engine bay. I mean it had started to fade on the front side before the turbo install, but now if I touch it while its hot the paint comes right off..[:@]

Well, I've got a really small leak that I think can be solved with a little extra elbow grease, so it's a bit decieving right now. But, I can tell you that when cruising on the highway, she sounds stock. When I get on it all I can hear is spool, there is no exhaust noise. It's pretty crazy

best thing to do for your valve cover would be to just polish it and leave it unpainted IMO
meh, I'm not a fan of polished/chrome/shiney metal in an engine bay.. I'm working on some designs for it right now, we'll see what happens..
The heat shield is a good idea as well, I'll have to look into that. BAH, theres way too much stuff I want to do now that the bulk of the work is over...but I suppose I should probably finish the tune and get it running 100% again first eh? :D

That is a CX manifold and he paid around $500 for a majority of the setup, he bought it off me

forty would the manifodl allow you to flip the turbo over and have the exhaust side near the AC compressor side? That would allow u to keep ur AC.

I don't believe so. And even if it did, the a/c system is looooong gone. I made a killing on though, so its all good. Not to mention, I never used it. I perfer to roll with my windows down and moonroof open, even if its hot as crap out. The only time i really ever used my a/c was to de-fog my windows:D
I'm hoping to have big updates later today, I've got some things to change this afternoon that, I HOPE, will cure my "leaning out" woes

Will do bro.
Last night was pretty funny. I was coming home from getting a couple late night shakes, and decided to push it a bit. Well, it leans out at 3-4 psi, so I had to feather the gas to keep it at 1 or 2 psi. Well, I managed to do it pretty well and even at such low boost the car was considerably faster. Can't wait to feel the full 8 pounds
More to come..

hahaha, I didn't realize I had so many fans!! I kid, I kid..:D
I am waiting on my new Golden Eagle Vacuum Manifold. Talk to the guys at golden eagle yesterday and they said they are going to get it to me either today or tomorrow. After that, I "should" be ready to roll.
The problem right now, is with the turbo being as small as it is, it spools very fast. Usually that's not a problem, but it is when the wastegate is taking it's boost reading from the compressor housing. Long story short, it spools to 8psi almost instantly, and the wastegate opens before that boost can even reach the motor. So by hooking up the vacuum manifold, the wastegate will take it's reading from the Intake Manifold rather than right at the turbo. The WG will then see the same amount of boost that the motor is actually seeing, and I should be able to hit and hold 8psi from there.
Wish me luck!!

All my temps are mint......really ;) I'll be getting a dual core though just to be positive. Unfortunately there are other more important things I need to take care of before that.
Still waiting on new timing maps, and I need to install my new Golden Eagle Vacuum Mani. Won't take long, just haven't had any free time since my puppy is sick right now..
