I am trying to find the answer to this question, is it possible to acquire DOHC v tec for a 7th gen civic, I have an 03 DX and in need of a power boost. I know about the whole K20 swap thing thing, but is there a way i can acquie a DOHC power for cheaper. I mean if anything i guess i could just use a D17A2cylinder head and get an NEO controller. But if it's possible to acquire DOHC without going the whole K20 route plase let me know. Also if anyone could point me in the direction of a good website where i can get v tec cylinder heads that would be much appreciated

Can anyone give us an ACTUAL ANSWER to this? I've been pricing JDM K20's and a swap is going to run $8000 on average. The domestic K24 is $1500 on average for the engine alone. I can't see buying a DOHC and making it work on a D17 costing as much or more than an entire engine swap. I know there's a DOHC head for the D-16, is it really that different of a motor?

Okay, I know I'm off topic on this, but a K24 only runs $1500 for the motor? What about all the other stuff? Because I'm looking at the K24 with the K20 head, and I have been told about $6000-$8000. So will the K24 bolt into an '05 Si, or is that going to need some different mounts and such?
D16A1, A3, & A8/9 are all 16V DOHC's. What's the "huh?" for?

MXS, thank you for reply. I don't post much, but it seems that when I do I have to ask the same question 2-3 times before I actually get an answer. Actually, 2 of my threads I had to research the answer myself.
Back on subject. The average JDM K20A2 goes for $5800 for the block, transmission, and ECU. On top of that, when you finally get your "new" used K20, the company suggests that you only use the cores of the engine and trans. So now you spend another $1200 - $3500 or more to rebuild your "new" engine and trans. Then you get the fun of trying to drop it into your 7th gen. This includes RSX or Si sub-frame, beefing suspension, new headers & cat-back exhaust, and so on. At the end, your JDM K20 will run you close to $12k. I understand that people are saying buy a domestic k20 or k24, but you're still looking at $8k - $10k installed.
Thanks to MXS we've FINALLY established, NO DOHC for D17.
New options? Buy a new or used D17 block approx $800. Strip, port & polish, rebuild with aftermarket performance parts. Add Turbo. Swap new "worked" D-17 into car. Use your old tranny and ECU. This way you have a spare engine incase it's needed. Total price: approx $6k. Do it right, and you have 250 - 300 hp.
New option 2. Trade-in your 7th gen, for a car with a better engine.
