Default Check marks

I've got a bazzilion little check marks on my hood... they're like little cuts maybe caused by rocks but it doesn't look like it.

What causes that?

It looks like the hood needs to be repainted but I'd probably get a CF hood before I dropped any money into my stocker.

Also, there is a local guy who has a shop that "massages" door dings out from the inside of the car... I've heard some good things about him. Has anyone here had good experiences with shops that do this?

Checking or crazing definitely requires a sand to bare metal and repaint. Looks like little razor slash marks on your paint. It usually begins initially with the hood, cab and trunk and can occur on the side panels as well. I've heard they are actually a paint defect or caused by too much exposure to the sun and the elements. CB hood would be a good alternative to repainting. You might check those other panels for checking as well.

PDR or paintless dent removal is the way to go. We have a Dentmasters here in OKC I go to whenever I have ding problems (like now) It averages around $50/panel and turns out like new. Cheaper than bondo and paint, plus you don't strip value from your car with the typical bondo jobs. I would definitely recommend PDR. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Ouch! Kg3, that is an extreme example. These marks are actually under the clear coat and will eventually come to the surface. This is why you have to sand to bare metal. If this is just painted over, it will come the surface of the new paint as well. I had some on my hood too, but after my accident, I got the hood replaced, so I got lucky. Before I had the accident, I went to several body shops asking for more details about checking. They told me it was a base coat failure and I should see if there were any recalls on Honda paint. Of course there weren't and plus it had been a long time, but I was desperate.

LOL, I need both doors and rear panels PDR'd. I also need a CF hood to replace the checked paint.
