FROM WHAT I SEE HERE IT LOOKS LIKE AN D16Y7 NON -VTEC ENGINE WITH AN UP GRADE INTAKE MANIFOLD FROM A D16Y8 PLUS I DONT SEE THE VTEC SOLENOID ON THE CYLINDER HEAD I JUST SEE THAT SMALL RED FILTER. VTEC ENGINE THE # WILL APPEAR IN THESE WHICH IS D16Y8 ARE FROM 96-00 AND D16Z6 ARE FROM 92-95

how come some civic valve covers say HONDA and others V-TEC

Its hard to tell what kind of motor you have when it is covered in red paint but it looks like you have a 1.6 SOHC NON VTEC

its actually vtec, you can tell by the vtec solinode and having the spark plugs in front. all D15-D16 SOHC engines with Vtec have there spark plugs located on the front of the valve cover, and like i said before just look behind it for the **** solinode,

all SOHC D series motors have their spark plugs in the front

i have a D15B7. it's a SOHC and has sparkplugs in the back

I cannot seem to locate the green solenoid but I have found D16Y8.....00 Civic is it real?

yes
the solenoid is not green in real life. ony just colored it in so you could see what he was talking about.

I just bought a '96 EX 5 speed and the owner told me that ALL EX models have the V-TEC.....is that true?

I would look for the code or the solenoid, but the car is still at the previous owner's house(I take posession of it on Sunday)
