OBD II Magnaflow ceramic-core catalytic converter:
"The ceramic-core cat netted us an additional 3hp and 2 lb-ft to the front wheels. "
Metallic Core Magnaflow OBD II cat:
"The metallic core cat netted us a 1hp gain (to 151hp) and no increase in torque over the ceramic core. "
Catless:
"On our final pull we stood eagerly by the dyno's monitor, waiting to see the results. Wait ... here it comes ... 152hp and 108 lb-ft - a gain of one measly horsepower and one lb-ft of torque at the cost of breaking the law.
The Lowdown
Now that we've armed you with the facts, you should be ready to make the correct decision should you need to replace your cat. Whether or not you choose to run a cat is between you and Johnny Law. But when you consider the potential gains versus the costs, it hardly seems worth risking getting caught. if theyre only getting 150whp from an Si with a full exhaust plus intake then something isnt right...
maybe theyre at altitude or something.

nice man. i dont have a cat becasue i have a 99 DX, but i think i might put a high-flow cat on when i get my catback exhaust, just to pass emissions nad because i hoenslty dont care about the 1 HP, lol my cars slow anyway  thanks so much for the fine man, this forum is teachign me more and more everyday

I have a 1992 civic dx too, mening I have obd1, soooo...ya think I should give it an exhaust from the flex back or the cat back?????? I think I love it a tad more now

To back up this data i've actually run one of my crxs at the track (sears point/infineon raceway in CA) with and without the cat with identical times and MPH (within a tenth or so.) no benefit at all from removing the cat!
at the time the car had intake, headers and exhaust.. so it wasn't 100% stock.
