Default Question about Z6 intake for my turbo'd D16

I'm turbo'ing my 00 D16y7 and am switching over to the Z6 intake for tuning reasons as suggested by 40, should/can i switch to Z6 cylinder head as well? what all is involved or should i stay just with the Y7 head and Z6 intake?

Do a search for "mini me." The Z6 head will benefit you and the swap is not difficult.

Default RE: Question about Z6 intake for my turbo'd D16

well i found alot about putting a Y8 head on the y7 block but nothing about Z6 head/intake on a Y7 block. basically i ask because this guy is selling a port and pollished Z6 head with

well i'll let you read

"the head has been ported and polished with larger intake and exhaust ports. exhaust ports have had the dividers knife edged for better exhaust flow!

this head is complete it comes with vtec selenoid & valve cover along with a complete valve train. this head came off a car with low miles! "

basically i can snag it off him for about 100.00 and i'll have vtec then right? what else is involved i cant help but think i need to buy an Apexi Vafc or something, is there a tie i can't find? or am i just over analyzing something very simple??

EDIT>> ahh ok so i read up a little bit more and it look slike i'll need the wiring from the Z6 and the ECU gotcha. now for ECU should i buy stock or is there something aftermarket?

You can buy stock and chip it for the tuning (cheaper), or buy aftermarket. There are several aftermarket options out there, but I'm not very familiar with them, or tuning really. Personally the best value I've seen thus far is having a tuner tune a chipped stock ECU with NepTune. There's not a whole lot of NepTune dealers out there, but it's a great program, one of the best. Dealers usually charge about $500 for the system itself and tune.

Don't forget the vtec soleniod there.

yea says comes with the Vtec solenoid, so as far as wiring goes, if i buy an OBD I Skunk2 ECU will that have all the "wiring" i need for this swap or is there a seperate harness i have to buy?

You know, I would stay with the y7 head. My reasoning for that is that there's less moving parts and tuning is definitly easier without variable lift.

However will I not pull more power out of Variable lift when i turbo it in the long run there'll be more whp with a Z6 head valvetrain and intake correct? tuning is a non issue to me.

I think a y7 with z6 manifold is comparable to a z6 with z6 manifold. N/A z6 is better, but turboed it will not make that much of a difference.

I've always been a proponent of the Z6 head design over the Y series. Vtec will allow him to run a calmer idle also.
