D16DAVE 10-30-2006, 10:16 PM i need opinions on what clutch would be best for me.. no crazy mods in mind.. probaly no more than 175whp.. i have been eyeing centerforce.. but i want some opinions and feedback of what other people have tried and if they were satisfied.. also would it be a problem using a clutch rated for higher horsepower than what i will have.. example (500hp clutch in a 200hp civic)..
HARI. 10-31-2006, 10:28 AM you don't need to get an expensive clutch setup for a 500hp car. exedy stage 1's is all you need for a 175hp car. i'm runing that right now in my 210whp all motor itr
importlegends 11-02-2006, 02:12 AM I have a Stage 1 and it works great from exedy.
Mr Mobsta Man 11-03-2006, 08:17 PM You could get a clutch for 500hp but your leg would get realy tired.
MY99SI 11-04-2006, 06:58 PM first off what are your mod's, engine, or plans for down the road?
im using a exedy stage 2 in a 2000 si at about 400whp and i cant launch off the 2-step b/c it starts slipping so im stepping up to a stage 3 or twin plate or maybe a exedy carbon
honda_tuner90 04-27-2007, 09:52 AM if my clutch goes out, (its stock on a 90) what parts of the clutch do i need to replace??
ryank327 04-27-2007, 09:54 AM You usually would replace the Pressure Plate, FLywheel and throwout bearing also
honda_tuner90 04-27-2007, 10:01 AM so i need the clutch itself, pressure plate and fly wheel?
honda_tuner90 04-27-2007, 10:02 AM and the throwout bearing
honda_tuner90 04-27-2007, 10:11 AM should i just stay stock??
ryank327 04-27-2007, 10:24 AM Thats up to you. When ym clutch went I decided to jsut replace everything with aftermarket parts. I Put in a exedy Stage one clutch and a Fidanza lightweight flywheel and a new throwout bearing.
honda_tuner90 04-27-2007, 01:44 PM how long was instalation?
johnb 05-01-2007, 01:17 PM are there any clutches out there that make it very easy to take off? i find it hard to take off in my civic. my friend got a new clutch in his focus and its VERY easy to get off to a good start off the line. just curious to know if any of you guys out there with exedy clutches find it easier to take off than with your stock clutch.
Live_4it 05-01-2007, 11:39 PM Obviously thats the whole point of aftermarket clutches lol. You might loose some power going up hills because of the lighter weight components. And towing force wont be as good depending on the kind you get, (such as 4 people in the carwith groceries in the trunk).
johnb 05-02-2007, 12:30 AM the thing i dont like about the honda clutches is that there so damn deep. are there any you would recommend that would make it REALLY easy to take off. i mean easier than usual. cuz my friend burnt his clutch out and the replacement one they gave him at his mechanic lets out all gay and its easier to stall then it is to take off so i guess thats what im really worried about.
justinunger05 05-04-2007, 12:51 AM hey guyss when u go froma stock clucth to a stage 1 clucth what all do u have to change......
SirusDark84 05-04-2007, 09:09 PM If you geta clutch kit you should get the clutch plate, a pressure plate, and throwout bearing. I would recommend getting a flywheel if you were ever planning on replacing that because thats easy to do at the same time. Also check your pilot bearing.... since thats right on the flywheel too, and replace that if you need to at the same time.

WTF? I think there would be less rotating momentum so it would slow down sooner when you let off the gas, but you wouldn't LOSE power.

You can hear and feel the clutch slipping. It's a kind of a rattling noise from the transmission on acceleration. You can also see your RPM climb while your car isn't going any faster.
2000 Si Newbi 05-09-2007, 05:58 PM Yup then i think thats what i got goin on[&o]. I am gonna do a vid and make you guy hear it and tell me. This is my first manual car. Got it about 4 months ago. So if it slips do i have to get a new one?
StifflersMom 05-10-2007, 06:52 AM yuppers...
the_turtle 05-10-2007, 09:49 AM honda clutches deep? i love my clutch...at least i dont have to push it about 2mm. from the floor like in 2g DSM's......i think im going to put on an exedy stage 2 on my y8 build.
johnb 05-16-2007, 05:37 PM would that clutch be deep too?? its too damn hard to launch in my civ...
ej6buddy 05-16-2007, 06:04 PM the thickness doesn't play as great as a role as the material you are purchasing, different clutch materials have different clamping power, therefore have different driving characteristics, which is why they're labeled with different horsepower ratings and stages.
and fyi, DO NOT install clutches that have a higher horsepower rating than your car does. it will give you a driving characteristic that's not what you desire.
