View Full Version : Project HCF
Remmy 11-02-2006, 09:26 AM 10/20
Hey HCF! Here is a documentory with pictures of all the work I will be doing in the next couple of weeks.
So far the bottom end block is being built as I type this and its almost done. It shoulld be shipped out by 11/3 or 11/4.
There is going to be a good amount of goodies on the Si and its going to turn out really really good. My goal is to have the slickest looking car with good taste and a lot of bite to back the bark.
Here is what is on the list:
HID Headlight conversion
OEM Si wheels to bronze color
Type R rear spoiler to compliment the car to make the rear look more 'full'.
*Real* JDM fog lights. I would have got knock offs but I couldnt find any.
The Tanabe exhuast muffler is coming off in favor of a Vibrant performance flat black oval muffler for a more cleaner, stock, and stealthy look. The Tanabe will go for sale dirt cheap.
4 piece strut/tie bar combo. I have a JDM front strut which will remain so somebody with a 6th gen will get a front strut for dirt dirt cheap.
The list will grow. But all the pictures of the products will be put in this first post.
Here are pictures of the fog lights, muffler, and lip.

I have received the rear lip and it looks really good. I will do a DIY on that one.
I have also received the strut/tie bar combo as well and will aslo be doing a DIY on that.
So far I have been slacking on the wheel job (Ive been joking around calling it my 'rim job' lmao) and have only done 2 out of 2 wheels.
Here is a picture of the second wheel so far!

Remmy 11-02-2006, 05:26 PM 11/2 (part 2)
Good news! The block shipped today! Here is an email he sent me.
I shipped it with:
b16A block, bore, honed, decked, tanked, blown out clean
Assembled, double blueprinted
All Honda bearings
Turbo rods
Wiseco pistons
Coated skirts
Crank radiused, balanced, polished
And in the box, brand new is a Type-r Oil pump
Type-R water pump
new oil pan gasket
new oil pan pickup gasket
New oil pump o-ring
So take a look at it, put your windage tray, pickup and tapped oil pan on it with the pumps, and your good to go bro.
I gave you more clearance in the piston/wall to give you added security from problems.
The crank with the pistons and rods in it spins very freely, showing you how good the blueprint came out and how well its going to make power for you.
Thank you, I appreciate your business, I am on your side to give you advice, or anything else you need to know, at anytime.
That is a quality built block.

Thats gonna be a beast! Wheels look awesome as well. Congrats
Remmy 11-02-2006, 09:45 PM 11/2 (part 3)
As I was trading out one of the wheels at the shop to paint, I spun the front left wheel just being a little bored while it was on the lift. But there was one thing that was VERY interesting about what the other front wheel was doing... it was spinning in the same direction!
For those of you who don't understand, I discovered tonight that my car has an LSD transmission! It was quite a surprise!
ef4life 11-02-2006, 09:57 PM [sm=groupwave.gif][sm=icon_rock.gif][sm=w00t.gif] you lucky duck man, that is soo sweet

Remmy 11-04-2006, 12:10 AM Actually Marnie, untouched thecenter caps look GREAT with the lug nits once on the car. Youll see eventually
BurryTheSpeedo 11-04-2006, 06:09 AM man this car is going to be badass when it is finished...and hey, want to trade trannies??
amg6975 11-04-2006, 11:28 AM Awesome! I LOOOOOOOVE my LSD. [sm=outcold.gif] That's really going to be a big help in getting your power on the road. You couldn't tell from driving it though?.. Whenever I'm in a parking lot or whatever turning hard at low speed it sounds like the front of the car is about to fall apart, it's also pretty apparent when laying the power on to exit a turn.
Are you doing anything in your tranny?.. If so get the clutch (Assuming it's a clutch type) replaced if it's worn, they loose efficiency as they get older.
Remmy 11-04-2006, 11:37 AM I never noticed. I didnt think there was a huyge difference in regular driving. The clutch is already upgraded. Its a ACT
amg6975 11-04-2006, 05:49 PM Not the clutch clutch... the "clutch" on the LSD. After a lot use LSDs (clutch type, which is prob. what you have) get less effective because the frictional elements that provide the limited slip wear out. If you didn't feel a difference I would suspect it of being worn.
amg6975 11-04-2006, 06:26 PM Nevermind, you probably have a Quaife which are all torque biasing... no clutches there.
dblclutchin 11-07-2006, 02:29 PM Takin the tanabee off eh? Dibs if it is cheap enough???
Remmy 11-10-2006, 09:21 AM 11/10
The block came in the other day. It is gorgeous! I tried to get pics but I couldnt pull I out of the box. I also slapped another wheel on and I must say it looks AMAZING. It looks almost like it was ripped off the cover of a d-sport or something. I will try to get pics soon.

Fiirkan 11-14-2006, 12:02 AM damn man... that is a nasty wack on the intercooler, no cracks is there? don't want dust getting in.
Forty04 11-14-2006, 08:03 AM Man that looks sweet. Have you (or the guy doing the swap) considered tucking some wires while you've got everything disconnected? Wouldn't take that much longer, but would make the engine bay look waaaaaaay cleaner. Just a thought, I know with huge projects like this, you pretty much want to just take it one step at a time
Remmy 11-14-2006, 09:16 AM Thats the Chief mech Scott. I am not there at all. They are taking pics for me.
Remmy 11-14-2006, 09:43 AM 11/14
Ugh! Finally! You see I had ordered some fog lights for the Si. Well, the first seller didnt have them. So I found some knock offs that had a smoked lense instead of yellow. Well guess what? The second seller didnt have them. Why do people buy and pay for ebay chit and then suddenly not have the item they are 'selling'? Goes to show you how their company works efficiently.
So anyway, now I have found the third seller and has shipped REAL fog lights (I broke down and spent $100 because not only time was running out I was tired of buying fog lights... I was fog light'd out) via FedEx so they should be here soon! Yay!
Talon585 11-14-2006, 10:04 AM Somehow i missed this thread but DAMN remmy ur build looks good and fun as hell.
Marty 11-14-2006, 10:07 AM Man they are doing it the hard way lol
Remmy 11-14-2006, 11:23 AM ^ I know but they have their good reasons (its been explained to me) to do it that way.
Marty 11-14-2006, 11:28 AM Hell man if I had that lift all I would do is unhook all the sensors, gas/coolant lines, take the axles out, and lift the car up off the engine/transmission
Remmy 11-14-2006, 11:31 AM Thats what they are going to do

I went to the shop today and installed the strut and ties bars. I also found out the fricken rear lip is meant for a four door and it looks no different than the bumper once 'on' the bumper. I also went to go buy the paint shop but when I got there the door was locked. I dont know why though. So I basically have a bumper, hood, fender, and two lips in the back of this Buick Roadmaster I am driving around. It looks like I ripped somebody off and peddling the parts out of the back of the wagon.

So far the transmission and the bottom end of the original block have been removed. The flywheel has some heat spots on it and the clutch kinda looks like crap but it'll do. Finally toady the Commander for my Apex'i Power FC unit came in today so I will be able to fiddle with all the parameters of the car.

POLYTHING 12-01-2006, 02:52 PM dude, remy, nice!
where did you buy the part? you seem have alots of problem! use UPS next time
is that your shop? I d like the work on my car, but i dont have the equipment and stuff. you much did you pay already?
the new block...?
one morething, I m doing HID, but dont know which one, would you help me with those? thanks bro.
keep us uptodate
Remmy 12-01-2006, 02:58 PM Apparently its for a eg bumper. UPS had nothing to do with it, I sent those pics to the seller and he is sending me a new one... like it will do me any good anyway.
Polything... prepare to pay through your nose.
The built short block was $2300
The work is probably going to be up to $2800. IDont forgetr I have to have my head ported and polished for a probable $300
And I would only go for 6000k HIDs. One of the forum sponsors is elling them for cheap.
But the good news is it will be the nastiest Civic on the forum once its done [8D]
mill$civic 12-01-2006, 03:39 PM ahh very nice, i didnt no all the work you were doing to it..looks great!!

BurryTheSpeedo 12-02-2006, 06:30 AM wow man, this is going to PWN!!!!!!
but dude, i love the piston..lol
WhiteRabbit1021 12-02-2006, 09:44 AM We just rebuilt my friends 93 civic that was in a wreck and put a dohc vtec in it with a turbo and added a 3 stage clutch and all sorts of goodies. Ofcourse I was just a tool bitch because I'm pretty new but I wish I would have taken pictures to show you all the problems we ran into. 3 kids did it in a driveway with wood blocks holding the car up.
As far as ebay and delivery companies screwing up, I completely feel your pain, and it wasn't even my car.
Those rims look great by the way.
Remmy 12-05-2006, 05:42 PM 12/5
The head failed the simplist preliminnary test. It was sent off to the shop. The valve seats were ruined. The valves themselves werent bad enough to replace (thank god).
So, the head has been cleaned up and all the jazz that would cost me $400. It will be ready tomorrow. Hopefully The car will be back in my hands Friday.
Fiirkan 12-05-2006, 05:44 PM WWWOOOOOOO.. car on friday... party at Remmy's:D
that blows about the head though, more money that could be in your pocket[:'(]
Remmy 12-05-2006, 06:45 PM Well, I finally heard from the stupid people that sold me the fog lights. It has been almost month since they 'notified' fed ex about my damaged product. They have been dragging their ass.
This is what I wrote them:
"It is now day 20 with this issue. Fed Ex would have long come by to pick this up. I either need a product replacement or a refund and all of this needs to happen fast. If not (I dont want to have to), I will be forced to file a complaint.
"
And oh! What is this? What they wrote:
"Dear customer
We just got the claim approve today. We will be shipping it out later today."
Oh! But of course it was approved today. Maybe Fed Ex somehow heard the email too.
Wow, Im supposed to get my car back fri or sat too.
Remmy 12-06-2006, 02:21 PM 12/6
Well, the head returned from the shop. They found that the cams will soon need to be regrinded. [:@]
I also cut the first of 2 $1350 checks. that is before the head work which is $400.
My car aint getting nothing for xmas... It basically just had two early ones all together.
Fiirkan 12-06-2006, 03:51 PM BOOOO... how much for a cam grind?... or is that justa sign to upgrade to new ones:D
Remmy 12-06-2006, 04:35 PM No reason to upgrade to new ones.
Kedawei 12-06-2006, 05:35 PM I'm sure you have your sources as well, but I'll throw my 2 cents in and say I wouldn't port a B16 head. It already flows very well. (One source: http://theoldone.com/articles/b16a%5Fhead/)
Save up for a Quaife LSD imo, to get all them horses to the ground.
Remmy 12-06-2006, 05:41 PM Ked, it had to be reported.

It is and it isnt. I couldnt tell you exactly why. But Im going to state, the guys that are working on my car have a very very good reason and there isnt a question about it. Im lucky as hell they will even grace a Honda.
Remmy 12-06-2006, 11:48 PM I got a solid answer from the mechs:
"Because on your car it involves removing the entire front sub frame, the entire suspension, etc. It would be excessively difficult to drop it. Especially with the turbo. Remember, we wanted to drop it then realized it was a bad idea and it would be a pita, you'd need an alignment, etc. And... the factory shop manual says to lift it and not to drop it"
Even if it was harder to lift it, who cares if someone else is doing the work lol. Remmy has to be just as stoaked to get his car back as I am.
Remmy 12-07-2006, 12:12 AM I care and I dont. I do care because I would have to pay for an alignment lol.
Exactly, but im sayin if it was harder to Pull it and they did it just so they didnt have to take extra stuff off.......

Ok, the old motor was broken into and looked at. I didnt have 'a' wrist pin problem... more like all wrist pins were destroyed beyond recognition. Come to find out, My motor was semi built. It has Crower rods. Thy are actually fine, including the crank shaft and bearings.
The cylynders are decimated and the pistons are also. There is shrapnel all through the motor as you will see int eh following pics.
Here is an excerpt from my mech:
"Dude, your motor is toast. All 4 pistons are f***ed up, your rods are fine, and your crank is probably fine, there were no spun bearings. Honestly, the problem was whoever built the motor, they installed the circlips wrong (and used ****ty ones) on the wrist pins, every circlip had disintegrated, and that was the start of all the problems. So, you had 4 wrist pin problems. Your cylinders are gone… 4 looks best, but they’re all destroyed. Here are some pics"
Learn from that people ^

Marty 12-16-2006, 03:35 PM so the crank and rods are still ok? how far did it eat into the cyl walls? can it be machined out?
Remmy 12-16-2006, 03:49 PM yes they can machined. They are just currently illusable. Pretty bad huh? Lol But I will sell the block with the crower rods.
Marty 12-16-2006, 03:51 PM I replied to your fs thread
aryiman98civic 12-16-2006, 04:07 PM dont sell that block, i want it!
Remmy 12-16-2006, 04:08 PM I saw that. I guess I would be willing to do that. But wouldnt it be easier to just ship it? We are both like 2.5-3 hours away from each other

Remmy 01-06-2007, 03:51 PM Yea I was on vacation. Im back now. No, my python stayed in my pants the entire time. Barbados is known for a banking central and I made a safe guess that it was for the clap too.
Update wise, I need a new clutch because the pressure plate was cracked. It will be replaced tuesday. I was told the car will be back wednesday. Hi-res pics will come on thursday. Not sure about a vid but I will work on it asap.
Fiirkan 01-06-2007, 05:40 PM WOO HOO!!!! Rammy is back:D lol...no pics from the trip?

lol, awesome. Glad to hear you made it back in one piece, and that things are going well with the car.
I'm sure the members of HCF are glad you're back, they've had to deal with me for like a week :D
johnny 01-08-2007, 10:10 PM He's been being a real Gastopo (SP?)He sent me to auchwitz lmao jk., glas to see you back
Remmy 01-08-2007, 11:45 PM ^ umm... huh?
I think he's trying to make "forum nazi" jokes, but he can't spell.
Remmy 01-08-2007, 11:50 PM ahh i got it now. Anyway.
There are two things that are keeping the car on the lift. A tranny bell housing bolt and a new clutch. It should be out the door thursday. I quoted wed but the parts has held it back
Fiirkan 01-09-2007, 01:05 PM Rammy don't quote specific days, that causes delays that are unforseen and just plain suck
what clutch are you getting?
Remmy 01-09-2007, 11:00 PM Well,I was going to replace the ACT with another ACT, but my wonderful mech convinced me of how stupid that would be since ACT only makes one non-race clutch for the car, my motor destroyed it, and it felt like crap in the car anyway. (Forty04 will vouch). So we're going with Centerforce's highest performance disc clutch, it's their Dual Friction clutch kit...
btw, the motor is going back in the car tomorrow!
Remmy 01-09-2007, 11:06 PM Oh, btw, The fog lights are going in. My mech almost stabbed me in the neck... with my own knife, as it took like 3 hours just to get the left foglight in. Nothing fit, and we threw out the "engrish" instructions pretty quickly. Of course holes were missing in my bumper that were needed to install the fog light brackets and he had to drill out new ones in the bumper. He was working on shaping it for hours, and got it almost perfect, but they just don't fit that well. Still, it looks pretty good.
Forty04 01-10-2007, 07:47 AM Yeah, the clutch that was in there was a stiff bitch. It wasfantastic once you were up to speed and started grabbin gears, but getting it out of a tight parking spot was a bit of an annoyance. I can't even imagine driving it around in heavy traffic.
Charlton, I'm anxiously awaiting the post that you make once you get to drive it again for the first time. You're going to be smiling ear to ear for weeks :D
Did you guys get anything more figured out tuning wise?
Remmy 01-10-2007, 06:12 PM The motor is in!

SovXietday 01-10-2007, 07:10 PM Sorry for my ignorance (otherwise known as finally realizing this was a post about your build Remmy) but what kind of power are you planning for this bad boy? Who's tuning it?
Have fun with the engine, I love how the little things are always the annoying things that make it all take forever.

#1 thing you'll learn when doing a large project, whether it be building an engine or putting together a turbo kit (or god forbid, both), **** takes FOREVER and it's always 2 months longer than what you originally planned, lol.

especially bodywork. I laughed when one of my friends dropped his mustang off at the painters and said he would be able to pick it up in like 3 days. he was getting a whole bunch of new panels, new hood, and a complete paint job. He got all defensive when i told him there was no way it would be done in the three days they initially promised. ended up just short of a month.

When someone hit my Z on the second day I owned it[:@]the body shoppromised a week for paint and parts and in the end I had to take it to a different body shop and actually wait 6 weeks to get my car back. Really it was there inexperience with 300zx's and stupidity of ordering wrong parts all the time.

The guys at Sirius Racing www.siriusracing.com (http://www.siriusracing.com) are so amazingly good and efficient at their work, that was the ONLY thing left over from the motor. No screws or bolts or o-rings went missing. It is an understanding of common garage practice (even in my car audio world) that there will always be some left over stuff that you dont know where it belongs. That picture above my friends, is one hell of a statment in their work.
