stock the Cobalt ss/sc is putting down around 215hp. GMPP stage 2 kicks it up to 245hp to the wheels. Then theres the intense stage 5 package thats out that changes out the s/c pully to a 2.6 which will kick it up to 280hp. Hahn just released a twin charge kit but the dyno's havent been released on it yet.

Hey guys, I am a ION Redline owner. I am not here for trouble, so hear me out please :) Anyways, some of you seem pretty well informed, which suprizes me because a lot of people say that the car is slow but in reality have never even seen one (there are only 5800 in existance). That being said, the guy who stated they are underrated is extremely correct. GM bills the engine as 205 at the crank, but a lot of people have gotten 220whp stock (i got 223) and a few over 230. Some one said that the ION/Cobalt runs out steam at the top end. This statement is completly false. In fact, my car builds power all the way to it's 7400 rpm redline. It would make more if I could rev it more (I need to get some valvesprings to do it reliably). ALso, some one said that they are pretty cheap to mod, and this is true. A freind of mine has spent about $400 is go fast parts and puts down a hair over 270whp. A lot of you said you like the driving feel in your honda better, and that may be true, but every cars handling charictoristics are different, and fit different peoples driving styles. I was concidering the new Si before I purchased my car. I perssonally did not like hoe it handles, but that was a personal prefferance, nothing else. So basically I am here just to spread some knowledge, also, you can check out my site if you want to see what my car has www.LSJBuildUp.com

<<<<< also an ion redline driver, also not here for trouble or trolling, just some 4 cylinder performance talk :) quote:
ORIGINAL: koonce727r heres an idea that my brother is doing, he is in the same debate as we speak. we went over all the pros and cons of both along with prices, both cars have there ups and downs. But he isnt getting eaither. he is getting the 2.4l ss coupe, which you can get for around 16$ and we are going to turbo his 2.4 which will give great gains, and when the project is done, you'll end up spending around the same money for the ss/sc or the si but the 2.4 w/ turbo will rape both of them. just an idea for ya a 2.4 w/ turbo may keep up with a stock ion redline or cobalt ss/sc, but thats about where your 2.4 internals are pressed to thier limits. In the GM build book i believe the the rods used in the 2.4 blew apart at around 300 hp at the crank! so unless you plan on building up the motor, you will have hit a ceiling. I love my IRL and wouldnt trade for anything short of a bently continental gt lol, but i must say that i am very impressed with the new SI's... they look mutch better than the hatchback si's imo, and the interior/dash is off the ****ing hook!
