Default clearcoat ruined - questions

I have a mid 90's Civic. The clearcoat on the roof and hood is disintegrated. It started looking like white spots under the clearcoat. Then, small circle or oval shapes of clearcoat disappeared and increased in diameter. The trunk is started to get white. I've had older cars and not seen this. I don't know if someone vandalized the car with some kind of chemical. The paint on the rest of the car is normal.
The fading happened gradually and then the loss of clearcoat increased quickly. There's almost 98% no clearcoat on the roof of the car.
If I've ever seen faded clearcoat, it was either a poorly painted Dodge/Chrysler where the primer was poor, but the paint comes off entirely - not just the clearcoat, or it is an older 70's vehicle that saw a lot of sun.
There's a lot of dents and dings and scratches from some person who is vandalizing the car. I don't know if they did something to the paint too. Anyone know what this could be or is it just sun faded?

Default RE: clearcoat ruined - questions

Sorry to hear, I know it's painful watching your paint ruin right before your eyes. Sounds like you already have it figured out... Clearcoat failure. I've actually seen that on a lot of 90-93 Accords. Not so much Civics for some odd reason. I guess you can look at it optimistically as a perfect opportunity to get it repainted though.
