I wouldn't consider it a bearing, but a gasket. Almost all older V8's have that type of gasket between there.

Well, I looked on How Stuff Works and came to the conclusion that the resonator is a muffler tuned to cancel out the other frequencies that the muffler doesn't take care of.

DAMN, I think you guys got the wrong idea. After you blow out all of the catalyst material, you put the exhaust system back together.
