I would like to thank Amelia (aka Amy, aka NOFX, aka tqless) from www.clubcivic.com (http://www.clubcivic.com) for allowing me to post this sticky to her Chassis Code list. It is one of, if not thee most extensive and precise list on the internet, so hopefully we can avoid all these "what is my car (eg, ek, ej, etc..)" questions.

Enjoy

One of the posts about CRX 87-88 is incorrect because they dont specify which kind and even if they did itd still be wrong because the CRX 1987 SI only has 108hp and the DX has 92hp and the HF 62hp.

i think a simpler way would be just to look at your vin number, i forgot where it was in the number, somewhere around the third digit or so, but you should be able to easily locate it once you see the E or whatever it is

my 1996 civic hatch dx clearly has ej6 listed in the vin number

just a tip if you don't wanna go through her list

Hey,

Bought a new '05 civic coupe almost 2 years agonow, just when the '06 models were coming out. I don't know much about cars, but the dealer told me it was an SE - special edition, and thathaving thatdesignation only means it's last year's model. However, I'm trying to figure out if my car is a DX, LX, etc. and I have no idea how to go about that... or maybe I can't? Or don't need to?

Sorry to those of you who are Honda/car enthusiasts, I know this must be a painfully stupidquestion for you. As it turns out, I'm at this site because I'm interested in learning more about my vehicle and doing some work on it, so hopefully I'll have fewer such questions in the future...

I tried looking at my VIN, and it doesn't seem to tell me what I'm looking for, or I don't know how to look for it.
____________

Perhaps I should add that I'm Canadian, and bought my Civic in Canada, in case that makes a difference to the designation.

go to the ecu tuning and management section and go to the free helm's manual thread. download the manual and it should tell you a lot of facts, canadian and american, at least it does for my car. it even tells you where the vin is and what each digit stands for

Thanks pearl. I didn't actually see my model there, but I have since found out (by looking at CIA kits online) that I have a DX/LX. Still not sure which, since all the addons for one seem to fit both, but if I recall correctly th DX was the VERY basic version, and the LX had a/c and keyless entry/remote lock/unlock, which I have. All that to say I have an LX, and you prolly don't care anyway lol. Thanks again for the reply

Hey all,

I've a huge favour to ask. I own an Ek4 & would like to order Authentic Red Honda Type R badges for it but need a Civic Type R Chassis code to do so & can't find anyone I know that has one to look at.

Would somebody that owns a Type R or knows of somebody that owns one get me a FULL Chassis number please?

The Honda dealer requires a FULL Chassis number in order for the parts list to come up on their Database.

Any year from 1997-2000 would suffice.

Your help is much appreciated,

Kind regards,

JT.

according to my VIN i have an EJ1, but that list doesnt say so.

nowhere does it mention a 92-95 civic ex coupe. which i fnd really strange seeing its a pretty common platform. they have the 92-95 civic ex sedan but not the coupe, WTF?

You have to realize how difficult it is to make sure you got EVERY SINGLE Honda model EVER in your chassis list. Do you really have any idea how many models, generations of each of those models and trims for each of those generations for each of those models there are? not to mention all the different countries that each of those trims for each generation of each model there was.

There is a bigger list on Honda-Tech.com right now. I've editted the old post on ClubCivic to reflect that.

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1928390
Please note that the Honda-Tech list I have is difficult to edit and so even the changes mentioned in that thread haven't been posted yet since I have to put it into Excel, screenprint and make images and then put watermarks on all of the 15+ images that make up the list.

While it is incredibly simple to figure out the chassis code of a USDM Honda, it's not always as easy to figure out a car's chassis code in another country, especially if you don't have contact with that car (some - but not all - have it on a plate on the core support).
