Default Help required regarding gearbox

Hi,
Hope you can help. I am from the UK and my younger brother has just messed up his gearbox.
The car will not work in 2nd gear or reverse but works in the rest of the gears.

His civic is a 1994 1.6 vti vtec eg6 engine-b16a.

He has been offered a gearbox from a 1.6 vti ef9 engine-b16a 1988-1991.

Will it work? can we use the gearbox from the older engine in the one he has? I have been told that the gear ratio's are different and the mounts may also be different. Can anyone direct us on the right path please?

Apologies if this is int he wrong section but need urgent feedback.

Thanks again for yur time.

Default RE: Help required regarding gearbox

no. the mounts and gears are fine, but the clutch on his car is hydraulic, and the one on the older trans is cable-actuated, so you have to buy a somewhat expensive conversion adapter to make it work. hes better off getting the correct transmission.

Thanks for help mate.
Will locate a 92+ gearbox due to the differences in the clutch.
Thanks again.
