I was in henrietta NY when a kid from my highschool pulled up at a stoplight with his Tiburon. He just recently put in a new clutch and catback exhaust. Well, when that light went green and we went at it, he was two car lengths behind me when we got to the next. Stock 94 Civic EX 1.6 sohc VTEC killed his Tiburon. Man do I hate Tiburons. I dunno if its the V6 though, I'll have to find out.

uh, my sisters best friend has a GT V6, and no, its not much faster, if at all...if he was a bad driver, or the car was auto, (dont know if the v6 comes in auto) he could still win. it would be close though.

It is true, the only people I ever see in Tiburons always have them auto and are always drinking coffe and reading poetry. Always parked like an asshole. This kids was stick though.

i absolutely demolished some chick in a brand new tiburon V-6 three stoplights in a row when i had my WRX.

apparently she didn't know what a WRX was, because she just kept trying to launch from each light and i would let her.

then i would easily chase her down and just look at her while passing her by and shake my head, and then roar ahead.

after the third light, she just pulled off and made a right at the next intersection. she had had enough.

ahhhh, the good ol' days. lol.

there is one tib here that is built like f'n crazy, it does like 10s-11s in the 1/4, nice vielside body kit to...

even the gt v6 tibys are slow as dog ****... they are what like 140whp(i could be wrong here, but i know its no higher than 160)stock OUT OFA V6!!! i have run a few... but the race is always over before im even to the top of 2nd... of course 2nd takes me to about 75mph, but still. they are slow end of story. theres a pink one i always see around orlando that has the nastiest body kit i have ever seen.. not sure what it is, but its all rounded and organic looking with all kinds of scoops hanging off, its really pretty gross.

there's a nipple pink one around here (ok, not really nipple pink, but that's what i like to call it) that is hideous. and to make it worse.....i always see a GUY driving it. it's just sad.

and yeah, they're rediculously slow.

my daily driver is a supercharged tiburon at just under 300 fwhp on stock internals....

to tell you the truth.......its not the fastest car out there..but for the money..its a pretty good drive.....i'm now waiting to rebuild the engine and get smaller pulleys to crank up the boost......the car can easily reach 400whp.....you can certainly make them fast.....but it will in all honesty take a sh!t load of money(but its worth it when you beat guys in STi's......in a HYUNDAI!!)...lol

I am sorry, but they look to much like fish to me. Anyone else agree?? The v6 tib has 172hp, 181lbs of torque and a curb weight of 2,986 lbs. I believe the run high 15's to low 16's. They don't seem to be bad cars, just not my cup of tea.

I think the Neon will eat you, but you'll have to find out. With how slow those cars are any kind of driver error is multiplied 10 fold so it goes either way.

I killed a neon sxtby1.5 car lengths in the end of second, and was still pulling hard going into third......they are very very sluggish.

They are some covers i purchased. I can take them on and off. They have a lip on the bottom and then velcro at the top(strongest velcro i have ever come across,lol. Takes about 10 seconds to take them on and off. Never had a problem with them falling off, and i have had them for about 2 1/2 years!

my friendbought a tiburon gt six speed and he was going on about how its BETTER THAN THE " HONDA " so i let him go on about it for a coulpe of weeks so that he could get used to his new car and get the shifting down . so one day i told him to line up with my honda and so thinks he can take my honda just cause it's a " TIBURON GT " so i let him know that i have a B16b full exuast carbion fiber hood body kit lowered 2000 SI civic2 door and then laughts . so we line up and i blew his car out of the water by three cars and to this day he hears when i pull up the rev of the honda and me saying
" THATS WHAT A REAL CAR OUNDS LIKE AND DO THE TAILLIGHTS WORK ? "

i'm not saying they're fast at all..because they aren't......but they can be...just need a bunch of weight reduction and need to go f/i.....supercharged tibs own...but stock...they aren't that impressive

Slow down, no need to come on here to bash. I know hyundai has came along way, they even have a different version of the 4g63 and 4g64 floating around in there engine stable but to be fair a D series can have headwork alone and a tune and be deep into the 14's, withough upping compression. There is no other n/a 1.5 or 1.6sohc car engine in the world that can match that.

O yes, I have much faith in the Dseries motors, but you have much to learn. The 4cyl tib motor is damn near bullet proof stock. Our crank alone has the ability to withstand over 1000Hp and there are guys pushing over 400Hp on stock internals.The GTV6 is a powerful car and mods very nicely. Honda drivers need to learn to stop bashing hyundai drivers, after all, were people too, who tune cars also. No reason to hate, were not hyundai reps who made our company just to beat honda, so stop with the attitude crap.

Just dont turn it into a pissing match, it is ok to question things and talk on here but not to like I said cause pissing matchs. Either way welcome to the forum. Hopefully you will hang around enough to form a better opinion of the forums members because this is one of the if not best on line communities.

Here is my take. I could care less if your car can shoot to the moon and back in 10 seconds. It will always be a Hyundai. With that aside, I dont really have a hate with tibby's. What I do hate is that all of the ones I have seen here in my town are a royal joke not to mention a rediculous clown show of crap. I dont need hyundai tuner education to find out that a hyundai can be bad ass. Ive seen the two motor hyundai built for fun. It was cool, but still for a dual motor car, it could have been far more impressive. Hell, Ive seen a v8 super charged yugo and i fully respect it.

So, you guys got some awesome tibby's. I would like (as a small non hater favor) to tell me and the forum about your rides. I really want to know... honestly.

On a parting note, this forum is not your average honda group. Yes, there are some idiots here that think their veeetak is a turbo. But dont confuse those with the rest of us.

I never personally said I hated Tiburon's I was just suprised at a lack of performance for basically being a sporty looking car.

I live in south austin and go to bowie. I got a 96 black ex a few months back and so far have only gotten new gauges, new shifter, V2 intake, and DC header (that was just cuz the exhaust manifold cracked). Yeah, with school going on, and saving for college, i dont get a lot of funds to mod the civic:(
and in all honesty, i think i'm not gonna do much more to the D, just save so that after college i can just swap in a b18. I only eventually want about 200 hp.

The new Tibs run low 15's stock. I had 3 friends that ran 14.8's and 14.7's with $150 worth of mods.
14's aren't bad for a near stock Hyundai, or any economy car for that matter.

i like a lot of u honda guys. this is my first forum to be in. im a tiburon lover but also a hatch lover. tiburons 4 banger come in 138 horses and 136 lbs. of torque. dnt know the 1/4 mile and bout 2900 lbs for the 5spd. the auto is bout 3000 lbs. thev6 is 172 horses and 181 lbs. of torque. 15.6 in 1/4 mile. wieghs bout2969 5spd and auto wieghs 3010 lbs. they are not bad at all. im debatin on which to get. im not sure. i want a v6 tiburon 5spd. supercharged. but i also want a eg hatch wit a b20 swap! (the crv motor)

matter of preference reallyu.....civic hatch for sheer performance.....tib for performance and styling..(no offense. on the styling of the hatch...)

both cars can be really fun to drive.....tib has lots of torque...hatches are tight though...i wish i had one.....

if you want to get the tib..there's an NGM assassin supercharger out that gives you 290-300 horeses to the wheels with simple bolt on.....tune and turn up the boost...and whoosh....lol.....(talking from experience)

B20's are horrible motors to build, no aftermarket support, and not that ideally suited to tuning.

I'd rock something from the K line, or an H22. Not a B-20.

well i just want to do B20 longblock n put either a B16 head and tranny or a type-r head and tranny.and i found stroker kits for the B20 and rods,pistons, camshafts, camgears, etc. like i found all the pieces i want and need for the motor itself or just swap pieces. i was told most of the B-series internals will fit rite in. the aftermarket for the B20 is small but legit. plus iwas just gonna do the stroker kit dat i found if i go wit the civic. but i just gotta know how the tranny will work. plus its diferent from everyones usual B16, H22 or even the B18's. the crv motor isnt too bad though. but idk???

Are u serious? Turbo a stock K20A and you can get to 500hp.

i have one thing to say about all of hyundi's cars, they all have the cheapest suspensions that you could put on a vehicle, and i know this because the company that i work for sells tire changers, wheel balancers and things of the like to hyundi.

if its not da si it would b a tight race against the gt v6 tiburon. tiburons stock pull out 15.6 on 1/4 miles. wit a good driver. but da tiburo might have you by a car or less. unless its off a roll it might b a different story. u gotta race one to know for sure.

stock gt v6's can pull a low 15. if the civic isn't a si you don't have a chance. maybe versus a 4cyl.

sure, they can handle 500+ horsespower, I know a guy running 600 something with nothing done but shot-peening the rods.

They can't handle torque worth a crap though, 250 ft-lbs is pushing them something terrible.

I'd still take a new si over atiburon, even a supercharged version. No matter who wins the race, its still a hyundai.

yeah, there is way more to a car than who wins a stoplight stomping. Every Tibby I've driven is just nowhere near as tight as they should be. Besides that, seams around the radio and throughout the dash are uneven, doors don't have that solid feel when closed, etc. There's a reason people rock 20 year old Honda's voluntarily, and almost no one rocks a Hyundai by choice (unless they think their 170 hp V6 is gonna own some mustang).

My friends got an 01 tibby and I'd have to say its kinda cool. I think its quick, that's just me though. If I get the civic I'm lookin at we'll definately have to race.

the vvt engine in da tiburon is stronger den ever. the interior is nicer then before. the whole car is better. its really nothin to hate on hyundais period. thier engines, especially off of the tiburon, should be a branch off from the vvt-i enginesfrom the toyota camry's and sciontc's! either hyundai has come a long way and will be one of the better cars out there sooner or later. so no one can reallyhate on them now. (unless you still live in the past)

completely true...search in the sights and sounds section for boosted k20. You can find a video of a turbo'd k20 in an eg hatch done by cheesefrog. They were running it on 30 psi for 588 hp on stock internals. They kept ramping it up and blew the (stock) moter at 42 psi. makes me smile just thinking bout it.

i suppose...i agree that every car has a crappy unit put out once in a while, shy of maybe the high end europeans...ive worked as a mechanic, and as low end imports go, it seemed that the hyundais were more problematic. i also run a hyundai forum, which isnt very busy, and while i know that there are fast tibbys out there, the performance money spent could go much further elsewhere.

i wouldnt buy one based on the problems that he has had. not only that, but he has dealt with two dealers over the warranty issues, and while he has the 100,000 mile warranty, they jerk him around. he went in because the drivers door inside handle broke, and when he took it in, they told him to keep driving it, and they would let him know when they got one in. they said "its on backorder". i worked for a different dealership, and i called...told them that i had an 02 tibby, needed a drivers inner door handle assembly...they said they had three in stock. i then told them about my friend. they hung up,and called him. it was a miracle.

yea i do i agree that at most times they do jerk you for that warranty crap! i know myfriend has a brand new nissan altima, well "06", and he had problems with the sunroof and they practically said the same thing! a few days later they tried bulls*** him and say that it couldn't fall under the warranty! mostly cause he passed the miles. dont know what the miles had to do with anything but w/e! but yea i mean hyundai, as i said before, has come a long way from what they used to be. they are a good car. but not all have those problems. and even then its usually small interior crap. but yea i guess you right with your boys tibby. oh and yea in a way with money for performance is somewhat true. but also its what the person likes and is into. me personally wouldnt mind spending money on one. mostly cause not everyone that has one does the things the right way and cause its different from what you see around my way, (south jersey) LMAO! boring as hell!

alright, this is something I saw with my own 2 eyes. my friend has a acurarsx with an injen intake, full exhaust system (sounds like ****) and cf hood. and we were headed to the meets down here, when a tibby pulled up next to him I guess they gave each other homoerotic looks cause I didn't even hear an engine rev. and they were off....well...the tibby pulled infront of him off the line all the way to second gear. -_- yes I was shocked. but a few days later I realized something god helped me realize....

i saw a guy a few years back with a Ripp blown tibby 02ish...it ran pretty good...in the high 13s...but Ripp stuff is way too expensive for way too little quality...as they make alot of stuff for 2g stratus coupes, and it is EXPENSIVE...headers for 1700 bucks, then the welds let loose after a few months? no thanks.

Rippmods is a joke IMO, anyone doing anything to the stratus/tibby/3rd gen eclipse that is worth a crap are doing it on their own period.

i wouldnt say that they are a joke, but their prices are.

i have seen two ripp strats, one was neals RT, and he is making something like 450whp, but his car was shipped to ripp, and they did everything that there is to do...i cant imagine how much that cost him.
i tried buying some stuff from ripp two years ago. i sent 10 or so emails, and left several voicemail messages, and they never called me back, answered emails, nothing. i cant imagine how mad i would be had i bought one of their 10g kits, and had a problem but they woudlnt answer the phone. but, they monopolize the cars that no one else bothers with, like the strat and tibby, and since there arent many options, they can charge a fortune for everything...for the 3g eclipse gt and stratus rt, tearstone seems like a much better option, and russ (the owner) is a good guy..ive talked to him on several occassions.

however, the cost of modding those cars in general is ridiculous. 5g for ablower kit to make an extra 100hp? if that? i dont have 5 grand in either of my cars, and theyre both faster than most of the ripp modded cars that ive seen.

that is what i am saying, 100hp from a supercharger on a 3.0????? Not saying their quality is **** but I am saying much much better can be had if your willing to do a lil research and work on your own. To tell the truth though the 6G72 is not really a good engine to go into in the first place atleast not the newer versions.

no..the recent NA versions dont use the quality that the TT versions used...and while you can swap parts, i wouldnt waste my time. thats why my car is mostly stock. i suppose the same is true of the 4 cylinder models, but your buddy showed that there is a ton more potential for that motor...but at a cost.

and from what ive been told, people are having trouble with Ripps items, like the headers.

well if the people are running there cars on stock headers with a ripp superchargers, then thats were its really thier fault. it clearly says that the only way for any of their products to run good or the way they should run is with aftermarket headers and if you want stock exhaust. but for better performance of course you runn with aftermarket exhaust. but the headers are a requirement. it clearly states it at the bottom with the prices and the specs. LOL! its hard to miss that. but if someone is doin it like that thats a waste of $2,500-$5,000. i feel for thier motor more then the person. LMAO! but i have heard some complaints mostly of thier fuel management. but now they changed it to a "blackbox" and "brat box". a lot more reliable from what they say. so i guess they picking up thier game, but at a very large cost!

Tib's in genral are just a waist of metal however In my Nissan days at 14 psi with front mount I came across a second gen tibby with some serious um POWER!!:(. The driver called me out as Iwas having a tim's (coffee) at a local spot. I figured what the heck. I killed him off the line as lag is no issue if you spend your money wisely. The tibby blew past me as i topped out third and i had a 13 sec 4 door 1992 Nissan Sentra exc (B13 for the nissan educated people.) . Dude had MITS EVO III with FWD Eclipse trans. TO3 ballbearing turbo looked . Thats the only TIBBY i ever lost to. [:@]Then i saw the light and bought a EG and i have begun building it. I will call him out again when its DONE and if i loose...well
My dads 427 cobra jet 69 Stang will get a work out :D. So if you see a Pear Black first gen with huge front mount with a string bean oakley wearin goof. Don't bother less you have a 11 sec car. Plus this kid has no control man he cutt two people off on his exit from my beat down. Real head case.
