Ok, So I'm about to install a new head unit into my 2002 Honda Civic LX 4door.  I choose the Sony MEX-BT5000 CD/MP3 Bluetooth Receiver.  But I have a delimia.  I have been looking at the install kits for the aftermarket stereo and noticed that they seem to be junk!  Currently, I have a little storage space with a door on it directly below the factory stereo that I would really like to keep, I was thinking I could just cut off the top part of the kit and remove the little aftermarket storage thingy.   But it would need to be a smooth cute and at around 20 bux, I wouldn't wana screw it up.  Does anyone have advice reguarding this?    Below are some photos.

How good are ya at fiberglassing?
I would use the kit like everyone else does. It's just part of the program.
I know this isn't what you want to hear......but.

from the point of view of that picture, it looks like the door and the deck are two seperate units, so that might work, but the sides of the deck are rounded, which means that chances are your new aftermarket one wouldn't fit (without the install kit), so if the new deck is smaller than your current one, you'll have to find something to fill the gaps with. good luck.
