RE: Why a d15b jdm ovr a d16a9?
I'm not very familiar with the A9, but I'd put my money on it for all out performance. It's head design will probably out perform SOHC VTEC heads for several reasons. 1) DOHC heads generally flow better. 2) Non-VTEC heads out perform VTEC heads within their desired powerband, without giving up much below the powerband either from what I've seen.
Onthe street you may prefer SOHC VTEC though. It's mild lower rpm cam profile allows for a lower idle, morepower below 3k-4k rpm generally, and better gas milage. The D15B also has a shorter stroke, it should be mentioned, which does help it produce power at higher rpms than similar SOHC VTEC D16s. I wouldn't know how it compares to DOHC Non-VTEC in that regard though; the reasons above still may give it the edge.
Depends on what you need it for. The A9 will also cost a bit more to mod, as it's aftermarket isn't as developed, an extra camshaft/cam gearwill need to be purchased, and it's rod specs are a little bit different from SOHC D16s, so rod manufacturers may charge a bit more for them.
