Default 1989 Civic Suspension

well like the subject says I have an '89 Civic and want to do suspension upgrades. But Have 17" rims and between the top of the tire and outer edge of wheel well, i have approximately 3 fingers worth of space(1"-1 1\2"??) how much could I lower with out really having any problems, including buying new struts and shocks? Was thinking of just purchasing lowering springs?

Any thoughts, ideas, and info would be appreciated

Thanks

IMO It's going to be kind of hard finding springs that will only lower an 1". You can just downgrade to 16" rims which will look better and then drop it 1.5" - 1.75". If your not going to buy struts Tein S-techs are really popular and work well with stock shocks they usually lower close to 1.5".
