Default cathodes or LED's?

ok. i just put in some 15" LED tubes under my seats to light up the floor. i paid like 60 bux for both of them. they look great, but as with most LED's there are hotspots. i've been looking at cold cathodes on oznium.com because everyone on the forum swears by that site. ha.

im just wondering what the deal is with cathodes. are they worth it? am i better off with LED's?

and most of all. if these cathodes are as amazing as oznium says.. why are they so damn cheap? $6.79 for a 12" tube?

and the last thing (and possibly the most important) is can they be mounted with screws? because i refuse to tape anything to my car. the DIY that i saw about cathodes shows double sided tape being used. but i cant tell from the pictures whether or not i can screw them down.

opinions are very welcome. what would you do?

Default RE: cathodes or LED's?

thanks. it took so much work to get the LED's all set up right. because first of all i have no knowlege of electrical systems (especially that of cars). so every time i do a mod its a learning experience for me.

but it was so much work to get the LED's set up because i bought them at an auto parts store, so they came prewired to plug into the cig lighter. but thats ghetto as hell n i wont have that in my car. so i had to learn how to hardwire.. the hard way. haha. but they look amazing and soon im going to put some LED's in my air vents.. and hopefully eventually behind my guages.

but yea if anybody has used the cold cathodes from oznium.. wanna give me some feedback on those? are they worth the money? or should i just stick with LED's?

yea. addiction is my hero. haha. because he likes lights just as much as i do. everyone else talks about how they're old and rice. but i like them. i think they really make your car stand out. they turn heads. im puttin underglow on soon. when i get some money. i just hope it looks as good as addictions. his look amazing. lots of glow. no hot spots.. i just gotta figure out how to mount mine. because there is NO room under my car. its about 4 and a half inches off the ground and the sideskirts and bumpers are flush with the bottom of the car. so theres nowhere to hide it.idk its gunna be a task. but a good weekend project.

Default RE: cathodes or LED's?

ya underbody... use some L or U channeling to hide the bulbs or leds... im using leds for my updated underbody kit cause the cold cathodes will die if one drop of moisture gets into the transformer
but im to cheap to finish upgrading the side strips with the leds....

but as to mounting the cathodes... well you can use screws BUT youll need those zip ties with the screw mounting hole.... so technicaly your screwing the zip tie down and then ziptieing the cathode tubes down

but as long as ya have good 3M double sided tape and clean both surfaces ya shouldnt have any problem... and best of all... NO HOLES!

and yes i love my lighting....
but so much stuff i want to upgrade... with so little money
got my tax check that was about 800 bucks... which 750went to my killer new radio and the rest went to my home amplifier for my old car subs. works great rattles my dresser and my window screens. LMFAO

+1 for lighting man everytrhing is rice nowadays anyway. And yeah, the cold cathodes are deifnaley worth it. Think the brightness of LEDs with the light projection of neons. They are also smalleer but cannot be mounted with screwd. I ziptied mine up there and i'm good. Oznium FTW!

If cold cathodes are so damn good... why are they so cheap? Like 7 bux for 2 of em and a transformer. There's gotta be a downside to them besides the whole water in the transformer thing. I mean. I paid 60 bux for 2 LED bars.

And where is the best place to hide the transformer in a 96 ex? Should I just leave em under the seat and run wire from there to the switch (next to my e brake in the arm rest)

How much wire is there betwen the transformer and the cathode?

Default RE: cathodes or LED's?

thiers ruffly 10-12inches of wire between the cathode and transformers...

and ya only thing bad about the cathodes.... one the water issue.... and they take a min to get to thier fullest brightness!!!!! but its realy not that bad.... and the worst part about the cathodes is the transformer alone.... cause its preaty large and hard to hide

i like cathodes cause they are instant ON and bright as can be...

leds are more expensive cause thier almost imposible to break

yea, my only complaint is the distance between the transofrmer and the cathodes. That kind of sucks, but if its under teh dash its almost perfect length with the transformer mounted in the middle.

I couldnt tell you why its so cheap, but im not complaining
