hf has 4 wheel drum brakes i believe so if you have disc front brakes then its a dx...i could be wrong so dont hold me to it...i think the hf is an8 valve 1.5...the dx is a 16 valve 1.5

d15b1 comes standard in the civic std/cx. there is no hf model for hatchbacks. easiest way to id if you have a std/cx model is you will have only low and high wiper speed options, a 4spd transmission, no rear wiper, vynil seats, no tach, no clock, and no center console around your shifter. this is of course your car is bone stock. a dx will have the d15b2 and will have intermitent wiper speeds, rear wiper, 5spd tranny, clock, center console around the shifter, tach. i personally like the std/cx model since its the lightest available for the hatchs. and suprisingly the std/cx is lighter than the crx dx and si. the only downside imo is that the std/cx model uses the smaller spline axles found also in the crx hf.

AS for knowing if its 8 or 16 valves why dont you just take the valve cover off, shouldnt be hard.
