my deadline to have all this stuff on the car is mid May. i'll prolly be picking up the wheels and shifter bushings hopefully this wednesday. ill have the tires mounted/balanced either by the end of this week or early next week. plan on ordering the LCA's this weekend if i sell the 5 spokes i have within the next couple days. everything else will just come as time goes on...

once the time comes for when i get my hands on all the suspension stuff and get to installing it, ill def. try my best to make DIY's for all of that junk. installing: lca's, front sway bar, rear sway bar, and subframe brace...after a couple weeks of having all the products on my car at atleast running at 1 autox, ill make an effort to do a product review aswell.

Wheels: still have yet to decide but it'll atleast be either 15x7 Rota Slipstreams(12.9lbs) or Rota GT3s(13.5lbs). i like the look and obviously the weight of the slipstream but the 15x7 seem to be a bit hard to find. if i can find them cheaper than $475(the cost of the GT3's shipped) then ill be getting the slips.I know these aren't on your list but the 15x7 Kosei K1's in silver are on closeout at Tire Rack, $109 each. They're 14 lbs. in that size.

ORIGINAL: civicexracer
Front Sway Bar: im still researching..i have no idea what kind, how much, where, etc yet tho. hopefully soon enough ill find what im looking for.what ARE you looking for? [8D] if I were you I'd get the rear bar in first and see how the car is responding. see what you really need to change. some people just remove their stock front swaybar, I might try that this year. Here (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=498245)'s a bit of info, there's a ton of experience out there, keep searching!

ORIGINAL: civicexracer
LCA's: was planning on getting Megan Racing LCA's but im prolly gena go with the Blox LCA's. i'll get whichever i find cheaper at the moment of purcashing...found the Blox ones for $110 shipped(i kno MR ones run around the same price).what are you looking to get out of the LCA's? weight reduction? better bushings? make sure you get something with swaybar holes.

everything else looks good. http://www.hondacivicforum.com/micons/m6.gif

eh i dont like the K1's much and they weight to much for me...i'll prolly wait after i get the rear sway installed and think more about the front sway. maybe ill like the oversteer lol. as for the LCA's, my OEM ones dont come with holes for endlinks which is my main reason for buying aftermarket ones. the weight reduction is just an added plus:)i was thinking about getting an Energy bushing kit but figure ill just put that extra $150 or so to an autox school...thanks for the info marnie.

mxs
03-12-2007, 12:14 AM
oversteer is fun [8D]

I didn't know your car had no endlink holes in the LCA's. weird.

the poly bushings are a good idea on a car of that age. . . . if you want to deal with the installation.

civicexracer
03-12-2007, 05:50 PM
ya i think all 5th gens(maybe not the case with the hatch si) dont come with holes for endlinks. i kno it for sure with ej1's tho...the lca's and sway bar come with all thebushings i need brand new so i wont have to bother with buying new ones unless i reall want the energy ones.

ej6buddy
03-12-2007, 06:42 PM
if it doesn't come with factory rear sway bars, then there are no holes for upgrading, sucks, i got the same problem, i just don't want to pay that much just to get lca's with holes. plus my suspension setup is good enough for me, at least for now

drbyers
03-12-2007, 07:26 PM
hey civicex, it may be me, but i thought the ITR rear sway bar only came in 23 mm???

civicexracer
03-12-2007, 08:02 PM
i believe the99-00 models come with holes in the lca's for a sway bar because the SI come factory with a sway. figure it'd be cheaper to produce just one kind of lca's for those years rather than two different typesjust for a lil hole..

and there are 22mm and 23mm itr sways. i've seen both on a bunch of different sites. passwordjdm.com used to have both the 22mm but they took it off for some reason, now they just have the 23mm set..

i should be getting the tires sometime this week or next, depending on how soon my friend can get them off his wheels. i've set dates for when to place the order for my wheels, should be either the 23rd or 24th of this month. hopefully ill decide on what wheel/color and find the right seller/price by then. once i place the order for the wheels, ill be putting up my current MB Motoring wheels for sell. i might try to sell em on here, if not their goin on ebay.

^ honda didn't make them forthe 96-98 models becausethey only putthe swaybar package on some of the 99-00 bodystyles

OP edited. i've found out about the Falken Hanabi's chances are high for getting them. weight less than the rotas, cheaper, look just as good IMO, and can get locally. matchin company wheels and tires is nice too:)

woot, just got the tires tonight.

205 vs. 195 tires. bit hard to tell in pic but their noticably wider...

like i said, bought them used but their practically just worn in. figure they'll last me atleast a year and half(about 20 events and handfull of schools). im considering keeping the 5 spokes i have now for daily driving. if i dont get atleast $200 for em, ill most likely keep em.

now i just gota get the wheels to put these babies on:D

If you only use the Azenis for events, they will last a good 2 years for you. Keep the 5-spokes for the other 6 days of the week. That's what I assumed you were doing all along. [8D]

haha we'll see. i suppose i could keep them untill the current tiresstart corrding then sell at that point. this is all just up in the air, but hopefully next year ill have the chance to upgrade my shock/springs,go with atleast a 215 tire and roll my fenders. just wishful thinking right now, but its very possible.

LCA's will look sick, i think black rotos will be sick, specially if you can find them with a polished lip (dont know if they make them or not ), good luck though, should be sick!

talked to the local shop that has the Falken Hanabi's in stock. said he'll match or beat the best price i can find online...i've only found 2 websites(www.edgeracing.com (http://www.edgeracing.com) & www.1010tires.com (http://www.1010tires.com)) with the bronze Hanabi's, edgeracing has em for $405 shipped(tho they dont have them in stock right now..)and 1010tires has em for $475 shipped. so i should be able to get these wheels for about$400 which is awesome. i was j/w if anyone else knows any other websites that sells these wheels to see if i can possibly get them a little cheaper. thanks!! if i buy from this local guy, i'll prolly get the wheels this weekend and get those Azenis mounted next week:D

mybrokenblinker
03-19-2007, 05:59 PM
man, good stuff. Yeah i don't know from what i've read if you really want to upgrade front sway bar. Lot's of the reading i've been doing has suggested against it unless you're rear sway is overkill (which it doesn't seem to be), but then agian, you prob know more than i do.

civicexracer
03-28-2007, 04:46 PM
little update but not much of one lol. i was supposed to pick up the wheels this past saturday, went to the bank to get the $400 but apparently i already ran my limit for my account for the month sooo now i gota wait till next weekend[:@]. o well, ill still have the wheels/tires on before the next race(april 15th). i asked the guy at work how muchit would be to mount/balance and do an alignment(i need one), thats gena be $40 so once i get the wheels, ill get all that done asap. i also just put up my other wheels on ebay last night, hoping to get atleast $200 for em...

i've decided that if i get that $200, ill add a couple other things to the list:
- lightweight battery(havnt researched what kind yet)
-oem front lip
-amber corners
-brake pads(possibly Hawk, will research more..)
-ek sideskirts(depending on whats left over and if i want to spend more..)

ok welli should be picking up the wheels on wednesday now that i have the money in hand. ill prolly have the tires mounted and everything on hopefully by the end of this week if possible. i also hope to order the LCA's by this weekend so i can get them on and have the alignment done by end of next week. im really depending on my wheels to sell on ebay so ill be able to buy the LCA's this weekend. so far theres 4 days left, 125 views, and i've already gotten a couple emails from a couple different ppl that are interested, so i really hope it will sell. im also going to be picking up brand new Energy Suspension shifter bushings for free from a local guy that no longer has his civic and just wants them gone:).

now the question is, what color LCA do u think would look best? keep in mind ill have bronze wheels and prolly be getting the gold colored Beak's rear lower tie bar.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a158/civicexracer/Project%20Pics/blox.jpg

leaning more towards silver, but i dunno.. i like em all lol.

jhsplaya08
04-02-2007, 08:29 PM
looks like a pretty good list and not too expensive either. about the lca, get silver or black because the gold on the tie bar isnt going to match the bronze ones and that wouldnt look good.

civicexracer
04-02-2007, 08:39 PM
ya, im not even sure if ill get the beaks rear lower tie bar, i already have a bomz one... if i did get it, it'd be more for the "bling" factor which i dont care to much for lol. its an easy add on so it's somethingi could do pretty much whenever..im really leaning heavily towards the silver, esp if i keep my bomz bar since it'll match it.

mybrokenblinker
04-02-2007, 10:17 PM
what made you go bomz and not... omni maybe? I'm not doubting, i'm just curious cuz i'll be getting some new lca's very soon.

(and i can't afford function 7's *slober*)

hey civicex, i think you need some real bling: Function7 lower control arms.

i would suggest the energy suspension bushing set over all the mods you are doing. they are a pain to install but you really don't need a press to get the old bushings out. it makes it faster, but certainly not nessesary.

when i did mine it made the biggest difference in the world. over anything i ever done to the car.

basically to install you use a hole saw conneted to a drill, it must be a slightly smaller size than the bushing, then you use a reciprocating saw, and you carefully cut the metal bushing shell on both sides and it will fall out. then you grease the new poly bushing and install it.

their Blox LCA's, not bomz. i considered Omni but Blox is pretty good and cheaper.

this is another possiblity to add to the list. i prolly wont get the whole kit but maybe replace the front bushings and such since the new LCA's and sway barwill come with new bushings. replacing the bushings for me isnt difficult, i have access to a press just for it(perks of working for a honda dealership:)). maybe later on if i'm really craving for better handling...

EDIT: i've edited the OP...added a few things to the project and i believe thats about it, atleast i kinda hope so lol. it'll hurt my wallet but it'll be great in the end. i just cant wait to be finished:)

update:
got the tires mounted on the wheels last night. also picked up the Work lug nuts from my friend today. put the wheels/lugs on today and freakin love em. i weighted everything a few times over to try to get a fairly accurate estimate on how much i lost. including the lug nuts, i lost 30lbs of unsprung weight total. im really happy with the improvment of performance and style. i just cant wait to really test these tires out at the race:D

few quick pics i got

meeehhh the thing i love about the slips is that the 15x6.5's only weigh 12 pounds and theyre 400 bucks for an entire set. plus i just love wheels with five fat spokes.

if you go with Rota's have fun finding 15x7's...its damnnear impossibleto find anything other than 15x6.5 or 16x7...ive looked for 15x7's everywhere and i just cant seem to find them for a price im willing to pay.

lol i dunno if u saw but i already bought and have put on my new wheels. which i think are a much better bang for buck than the slips. 15x7, 11.02lbs(thats what mine came in at), and$400 for the whole set including shiney valve stems.

believe it or not tho, i think the APC ones actually fit a lil more snug then these..but w/e, i think i can fix that and its not bad. the quality of the Vision ones are better tho, the plastic seems alot more durable and i think theres some coating over the lense prolly to protect from scratches and such..

i also just placed an order for the LCA's since i cancled from the other place. this site says their always in stock and blah blah and their acutally cheaper. hope to have em by next friday:D

thanks man:)

after a bunch of searching and emailing im a bit dissapointed but w/e. i emailed heeltoeauto.com about the rear sway and beak srk package. they said its on back order and i prolly wouldnt get it for another 4-5 weeks[:@]. i've emailed jhpusa.com asking if they have the rear sway and beaks kit in stock, hopefully they'll respond with good news by tomorrow. im just gena spend the extra $40 if they have it in stock, i just dont feel like waiting 4-5 weeks. if they have it, order will be placed tomorrow. i've also emailed a few other places and sellers to see what they have...also, i've decided to just go with Brembo blank rotors insted of slotted.figure slotted isnt going to do much for meand they'll just eat up my pads. believe it or not, blanks dissipate heat pretty well anyways. i can get the blanks for like $100 cheaper($58 shipped) so ya. i hope to be able to order the rotors and the Hawk HPS pads tomorrow aswell.

EDIT: FedEx says my LCA's are just hours away from my house. ill have them by tomorrow afternoon prolly:Dhope to install friday night.

what to do with the sticker...lol. i kno atleast 2 lcabolts ill have to torch out or break so i ordered them. wernt in stock at work but they should be here tomorrow. ill try my best to make a DIY, even tho its simple, but w/e i can do to help.

AJ, torching and cooling will not necessarily work. If possible, cut the bolt from the inside of the bracket. A cut-off wheel or a small blade sawzall might work.

im gena try to torch them first. if it dosnt work, ill just snap the heads of the bolt and snap the other side thats connected to the hub(which is just tack welded on). then replace that part with a new nut. if i break the heads off like that, ill be able to slide the arm out. i asked a couple guys at work about doing it and they said only way is to either torch it or brake the heads off.

StifflersMom

yea...the one at the hub I had to brake the nut off...than tacked a new one there...

i emailed Beaks company since they sell a quick-swap set(22mm sway bar, beaks srk, endlinks, etc..). they said that they are currently on backorder just like the other 5 websites i've emailed have said. BUT, if i order directly from Beaks, i'd get it faster than any other website. their price for the set is about the same or cheaper than most other sites anyways. i'll be placin the order tomorrowand hopefully everything will come in no later the May 18th.

i'll prolly place the order for the Hawk pads tomorrow also. after the sway kit and pads, i wont be getting anything for my car for a lil while. im goin to Ocean City for a few days end of May so that'll be eating up my rotor, lip, and sideskirt funds..

Are you planning on getting different shocks and springs, or you feel no need to upgrade from the tokico springs and hp shocks?

civicexracer
05-07-2007, 01:21 PM
im leaving them on. i like em for everyday driving and at the point in racing i am, i feel theres no need to upgrade. tho next year i will def. upgrade to a much much stiffer setup so i can become a lil more competitive.

Hawk pads should be here this week sometime. hopefully soon so i can get them on and broken in before this saturdays race.

The reason why i am asking is I am torn between getting a really nice suspension setup(koni yellows and ground controls), or getting new rims and some good tires, and a cheaper suspension setup like yours. I can't decide.

civicexracer

find something inbetween for both. koni yellows and like tien s-techs and get some nice wheels/tires. just set ur budget right and consider all different kinds of options and go with what u think works out best. or just wait a lil longer to save up and get everything u want.

I don't really autocross or do any type of racing with my car, well at least not yet, but could something such as koni yellows and gc, or having sticky tires like the azenis really be used to the full potential on regular roads, or am i just wasting money on good stuff i might never use?

drbyers

wasting money. unless you drive like michael schumacher, you'll never realize the true potential of a track-oriented suspension setup.

but hey, OEM suxx0rz...

Koni's and gc's might be a bit overkill if its just for spirited daily driving IMO. yeah its a great setup, but if u value a comfy ride, it might not be the best choice, not to mention pricey. if i were u, i'd look into something like Tokico Illumina's or KYB AGX's, both aregood adjustable shocks and i believe are a bit cheaper than Koni's. adjustability is great, say u want to have a real fun day of driving then just adjust them to a stiffer setting and then back to soft for regular driving. as for springs, if u dont care for adjustable rideheight and super stiff spring rate, go with some nice springs like Tien s-techs or Eibach Pro-kit. if u want adjustable ride height, maybe look into Skunk2 sleeves, i've heard good things about them and they can be had for a good price. tires are very important to handling. Azenis are great, but be aware that they do wear alot faster than most other tires since they are soft(which is why they grip so well). also, u need to take extra precaution when it rains, they dont track water very well. i'd suggest a lil more all weather friendly ultra high-performance tire such as the Kumho Ecsta SPT's. just look around for something that performs well all around and is in ur budget.

Damn im jacking this thread...

From what i have seen, the koni yellows are not much more expensive than the kyb agx or the tokico illuminas. The yellows can be had for $450, not sure for the others. I also heard that they yellows are also much more confortable than other shocks in general, even if riding on stiffer springs.

Just wondering if you know anything about falken ziex 512's?

haha i dun care. the 512 ziex are supposed to be pretty good and their at a good price. i thought about buying them for my other wheels and using them as a daily tire. still up in the air if ill get them or if ill just sell my other wheels..

I love ziex 512's. Had them on my microvan and they were extremely nice tires.

finally...finished...damn subframe brace ****. got everything installed tho technically not 100% the correct way, but it should be alright. those 6 damn lil tack welds on the inside of the subframe were bitches. one of the mechanics at my work let me borrow his air hammer/chissle piece and i got 4 of the 6 tacks welds off with easy(air hammers are fun:D), but the other 2 i couldnt reach and i just cant think of another way that'd get them off(trust me i've tried a handfull of other methods with no luck). but w/e, the subframe brace fits great and everything else fits perfectly. after 2 hours(just today), i finally got everything put together and it feels great. i can feel the difference fo sho, less body roll and a tiny hint of oversteer(tho i havnt really taken any fast sharp turns like in a race). my BomzRacing rear lower tie bar dosnt fit with the subframe/sway bar on but i dont think i need it, the back end seems plenty stiff now.

anyways, pics..

as for the rest of the project stuff, that'll come later on as time goes on. i really need to start saving more of my money so ill just get stuff whenever i feel funds will allow. still lookin to get: oem lip, EK sideskirts, mudguards, viper alarm/kill switch(will acutally happen next week), and maybe a couple other small stuff along the way. im planning by this coming winter, to have enough saved for a new suspension set-up, much much better, i cant freakin wait:D:D:D
